Hello all,

Just purchased this game about a week ago, and finally got some free time to install and play it today. Great game, I do however have a very stupid question I am hoping someone can answer. I am trying to plot my own firing solutions, and sadly I can't seem to get past step one. I spot a cargo ship, but I can never find any cargo ship's in the ship identifier book. I have gone through it and it only seems to list warships from various countries. I'm sure I am missing something right in front of my face, perhaps there is a specific Merchant book?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Have you done the naval academy? If so, make sure you are looking in the merchant section. Don't look for British Reichs, because that's all naval ships, you want to look in the section Handelsshiffe (that firsts comes up when you select the handbook).

Any welcome to SubSim, btw.

I was extremely frustrated by this too! In my install, when I bring up the book I first get the Albanian navy. The mighty Albanian navy! Must be two rowboats and a goat.

Anyway, for me if I select the left arrow on the book cover it takes me to the merchants handbook.

Congrats on trying to do manual targeting so early in your career! I'm still turning on realism one step at a time.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the quick replies, much appreciated! I feel rather embarrased that the information was sitting right there, but I went through them all (I thought..) at least twice, and then just thought that the Merchant ships must be located elsewhere. My mistake there..

One other quick question, with regards to estimating ship speed..What is the secret here? It seems to calculate ship speed about 1 out of every 15 times I try it. Usually it either says no speed or 0kts after I attempt to calculate it. I have tried anywhere from 10 to 40 seconds on target, and usually I end up with no calculation at all. I can see the ships moving in my pariscope, so I know they are not going "0kts" as it calculates. The tutorial and walkthrough say to simply keep the crosshair on target for 10 seconds or so, but this rarely seems to work for me.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Thanks

Howdy Kaleun!

Remember that you must lock your crosshairs on the target by pressing 'L', and only once you've identified the target correctly and calculated the Angle Of Bearing properly will you be able to work out speed accurately.

Hope that made sense...
