Ok so i watched Raider's of the Lost Ark the other day and noticed the U-Boat at the end and how it goes to a u-boat bunker inside the island.

Is that a real German U-Boat? it looked like a VIIB or VIIC
It really looks like the real deal. And about that u-boat bunker south of Greece? did those exist and are they in the game?

O and im a history buff, inthe beginning of the movie it says that its 1936. so im thinking it cant be a VIIB or VIIC. and the germans are using MP-40s and Jones has a RPG at the ending. Well thats liberal Hollywood for u.

It's a mock up VIIC. Actually, the same mock up used in Das Boot.

I grew up wanting to BE Indiana Jones, but one thing always troubled me in that movie, and that was the scene where Indy hides on the ship as it's being searched by the germans, only to reappear a few minutes later on top of the sub. Cut to a map scene indicating the path home and cut again to Indy now hiding inside one of the sub pens..

I always wondered where he stayed during the course of that voyage. :hmm:
Did he just hide behind the conning tower for this obviously surfaced trip? Or did he somehow get aboard and manage to not get noticed by the 40 or so men inside the sub?

Always wondered about that.

For historical accuracy, they included Bernard on the uboat. Unfortunately, he was on watch. :dead:

I've seen that movie as well, and seem to remember the merchant ship as being an aft engine one with the bridge forward (like a tanker). Did they use a tanker or a small collier for the freighter in the movie?

Actually, that is a panzerfaust. Just as historically inaccurate, though.

Which Pazerfaust? the 30m, 60m, or 100m?

Not having seen the movie in a number of years, I couldn't tell you. Not that I would necessarily know anyway, just from looking at it quickly, but with a freeze frame and the references hangin' around it might be possible to tell.

If you listen to the commentary on the Das Boot DVD you will hear them talk about how they lent their U-boat model for its part in Raiders of the Lost Ark and it came back to them damaged. There is a scean that they point out where you can (if you look close enough) see the bow of the U-boat flopping about a bit.

Are you talking about the Director's Cut DVD of Das Boot saying that?

yes,the commentary is on the Directors Cut. Have it lent out right now. :-?

Its the first time I have had the patience to sit all the way through commentary.

I also noticed the Uboat crew were wearing Army uniforms.

Used that scene from Indiana Jones in my old signature image. Always wondered what a U-Boat was doing prowling the eastern Mediterranean in 1938. Long way from Wilhemshaven.

:damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:

I've complained many times that he couldn't survive if they dived, and couldn't avoid being spotted by the watch crew if they didn't...

And I never once noticed the *%&^$# uniforms!

Yea - you're right - not really like a panzerfaust. In my memory, it looked a lot like an...RPG.

In the scene where Indiana Jones ambushes the Nazis with the Ark, he threatens them with an anti-tank rocket. Anti-tank rockets weren't developed until later on (well into the Second World War), and those very first, called "Panzerfaust", looked completely different. The type of anti-tank rocket he uses to threaten with is modern, dating back to the 70s.

Maybe Indy build a timemachine? ;)

Well it is a Panzerfaust that looks like a Russian RPG which was made by a hollywood prop shop, hahaha. I looked at several WW2 weapons books to determine that answer. :know::know:

This is Indiana Jones man, we do not ask question like that. You know very well that he held his breath while hanging on the railing until the island was reached.

What I found peculiar, besides the enigma of Dr. Jones' survival (the periscope view of the island indicates that at least some of this journey took place while submerged) was the fact that the order to start the engines and dive the boat were given to a crew that was stationed downstairs. This uboat, evidently, had multiple decks.

Maybe it was a midget sub on the aft deck...we just did not see it. Indy got in and road it out to the island:hmm:.
