Any of you considering an upgrade to Vista?

That's just one of many problems being reported.
The intention of this post is to inform. I won't be trying out Vista for awhile.

Probably not for a year.

I doubt I will upgrade to Vista. Come to think of it, I've never upgraded OS, I get it when I buy a new PC. I had a 120Mhz Pentium with Win95, and then a Pentirum III 500 Ghz with Win 98, and now my 2.4Ghz P4 with XP. Thing is, I don’t plan to buy a new PC yet, even though this one is 4 1/2 years old. I added a 2nd HD and a Geforce 6600GT card. Still handles all the games I throw at it, including AOE3, BF2, and SH4. So, I'm going to squeeze another year or two out of it.
I bought a pair of HP laptops for my twin daughters' graduation presents last week, they came with Vista. Other than a few geegaws and eye candy, Vista is about the same interface-wise as XP. As it happens, the laptops use a Geforce graphics card….

I'll planning on building a new gaming rig in the coming weeks, though I'll be loading WinXP onto it. I'll move to Vista once the industry as a whole has released stable, streamlined and mature drivers across the board. If history is any indicator, this may take a while yet. The new features of Vista hold little interest for me as I only use a PC for gaming, everything else is done on OS X.

I've done the same as you in the past, Neal. Never have upgraded an OS either.
But it is time for me to get a new pc. Since I refuse to pay the current price for a DX10 video card, I'll scale it back a little and make sure it can be upgraded, but get Win XP on it.
HMMMMM....got a beta sh4 running on that rig Neal? :ping:

I'm not planning on upgrading at the moment, though I was starting to feel that the look of XP was a little too out of date, so I've since made my computer look similar to Vista. Here's a screen (with my apologies for the JPEG artifacts), note the updated Taskbar and icons (both in the Start menu and the My Computer and Recycle Bin on the desktop):

Graphical Interface update is my last concern when I'm updating an OS.
And right now nothing warrants an upgrade from windows xp professional to windows vista business/ultimate.
All the cool features, winFS, etc.... are delayed maybe to Vista's successor so when the time comes I'll pass from xp to the successor of Vista.
Not a moment before. ;)

I'm kinda in agreement with you, but all of the changes that I've made have no effect on the performance of the operating system...the changes that I've got above were all made using the native Windows GUI drawing platform. The icons simply replaced the system icons. Because of this, I reap all of the benefits with none of the increased RAM usage or performance penalties of Vista or programs like WindowBlinds.

Noop... Vista is full of loopholes (right now) and can be exploited by hackers to gain access to your bank accont, subsim password and so...
Before they Service Pack 1, or I will definitely not install it on my computer, although it is Vista ready
The drivers are all in disaster... Many drivers are still the beta stuff...
The compatibility of support of games (especially those old ones) are highly doubted by me
Anyway, I won't get these piece of 'crap' right now... Perhaps later though my PC is Vista compatible
System config
AMD Dual Core 3600+
1Gb RAM (hope that I can upgrade it to 2 Gb later, when DDR2 Rams are cheaper)
160Gb HDD (a little bit small)
Geforce 7600 GS
... and then a Pentirum III 500 Ghz with Win 98...
Wow, Neal! That's one fast computer you had there! Where can I get one?

I'm sure thinking about trying the Vista Home edtion oem $95 at ewiz
The price is right plus I'm putting an old intel 478 cpu and board together for my grandson anyway ...
at 16 he's a gamer of course and many are reporting problems with sound on old games,
etc, but I could always dual boot XP and Vista, right?
What I really wonder is if MS will take it easy on the XP license now ...
I bought XP Pro oem for $135 six years ago and put it on three different computers with two rebuilds
and only once did they make me call in and all they said,
"Is this the primary reciever for XP and I said "Yes" ...
I think they only care about support issues anyway.
Still life in that old XP CD even with the scratches.

Exactly. I've seen builds that included many features that just don't exist in the released version. I'll see if I can get that tech demo vid from a friend of mine - or if he will allow it to be posted. You will see what I mean.

PS. Wow that sounds way too geeky. Need to lower the geek meter a bit!

Hey - i still have a P133 over here that functions. It doesn't seem all that long ago during my perpetual upgrades, I had bought one of those. Actually, I remember paying around $800 for an Intel 486DX2-66 (that price was just for the processor in a little anti-static bag) on an old PC build.

I'm going to be installing it in about 10 minutes. If it's horrible, I can always go back to XP.
Vista is being sold in the UK for TWICE the american price!!!Microsoft really are taking the p with that trick!

Probably because the EU has made Microsoft pay so much money in penalties and legal fees.

Nope, its has everything to do with taxes and having to pay 1 or more middleman.

I really feel sorry for my European brothers. VAT tax? What the p*ss?! You guys are getting the prison sex from your government to pay for a Socialist paradise with the money you earned.
That point aside, I'm a gamer. I won't upgrade to Vista until all new games support it and DX10. Backwards compatibility is my main hangup.
Remember the basic rule.. if it's not broke, don't f*ckin fix it!

I'm sticking to XP for at least another year. I will most likely get it when I get a new computer. I don't feel a need to upgrade and subject myself to a whole new bunch of bugs and glitches. Untill most are fixed I steering clear!!!:yep: Especally at the price there asking!!!!!:o

I forgot your way down south, cause I found Vista oem Home edition (just means you can only install it once on one machine) for only $95 at well you know an e biz type of place.
But sooner or later Vista will get us all ... Somebody should start a thread, "What they like about Vista"
