I just got an email from amazon.de saying that SH4 won't be released on March 15th but on March 22nd. I don't know if it just applies to the German release or if it's a world wide delay.:nope:

These things make me sick allready. It's a habit for all game producers to delay release dates. No comment.

it wouldn't surprise me but its not a significant delay, talking of which wouldn't mind surprise me anyway

I'm sorry for that inconvenience! I changed the title so that only people in Germany will mess their pants.:p:rotfl:

The German government can be quite strict on computer games, perhaps they require a few small modifications before it will be concidered acceptable.

10 days is not alot of time to wait though.

If that's true that might be an indicator that we would be able to shoot survivors.:hmm: But on the screenshot of the retail box the game has a rating of 7+ by www.pegi.info
So I guess it's just a normal delay because somebody srewed it up again.:88)

Yeah, just got the email too.

Meh, only a few days. I'll be in Australia for all of March. Either way I'm still going to have a fresh copy waiting for me when I get back here on the 31.

Now, if it doesn't have an English language option, that's going to piss me off.

Possibly, or even better, the Atlantic may be populated with german vessels and require swastikas removed...

We can hope...

Edit: 7 year olds are already well on thier way to killing things, playing with starwars figurines shooting eachother.

My Nephew (about 7-8) was watching dragon ball Z the other day, and he held out somthing that looked like a knife and asked his brother (8-9) "Do you think you could stab someone with this ?"

I was surprised, but he is a pretty normal kid, naughty sometimes...

I think the age rating mainly relates to Gore, not killing things

The German version of SH3 did have an English language option, so I guess and hope that it will the same with SH4.

German authorities can be quite strict if it comes to violence. One game of the Command and Conquer series had a unit called 'suicide bomber' and German authorities forced them to get rid of that unit. And to make things worse we've got an ongoing discussion if playing Counterstrike makes you run amok.

Ubisoft has at present problems in Germany with IL2-1946, all delivered copies to the dealers were already recalled, because the game contains still some swastikas.

Backgroud: Swastikas in games are forbidden in France, Austria and Germany

Ubisoft probably does not want the same happened with SHIV because the recall costs Ubisoft money.

Yes Polititions are like alot of parents, so busy telling children how to behave the dont get to see how they do behave when they are not around. If they could remember thier own childhood they would realise nothing has changed. I remember mine and we were just as bad. I have never been arrested or banned from an internet forum. They do it to gain the Vote from the parents, and that propaganda simply brainwashes some parents into losing contact with thier children or causing them to rebel.

I find it quite sad.

Edit:
Tonight on the News there were some polititions talking about trialing these new electric cars (Which cant even go on the freeway due to thier speed) Directly afterwards there was a comercial from the power company asking people not to run Airconditioners between 3 and 5 pm because the infastructure cant handle the demand...they have been taking about this "looming" crisis for 3 years, but have done nothing.
Polititions are the same the world over.

With all the anti-computer game violence stuff in the media here I won't be surprised.

StandingCow

I never understood the no violence in video games argument... I have played them all my life and I am a very laid back non-violent person. Hell, I even listen to violent hardcore and punk music.

People need to stop putting the blame on games and music.

Sorry, I went off topic.. :(

Navarre, remember SH4 is a Pacific sub sim. So I wouldn't think here'd be swastikas in it. Yes, I know German Uboats were in the Indian Ocean, Pacific and all that, but we've not heard a word they put Uboats in too. At least I haven't heard or read that they did. That would be wishful thinking for all of us if they did put Uboats in.

Besides, Ubi is always coming up with a 2 week delay, look at the IL2 series. It's just SOP for them.

Or..... maybe they had to take out all the guns and torpedos for the players in Germany. You know, anything that shoots. ;) ;)

If there was a delay, I don't believe it would be related to the game's rating. The rating was changed from 7+ to 'Teen...mild violence' some time ago to accommodate the increased visual reality.

News from germany: all torps and shells have been replaced with fluffy teddy bears, all weapon fireing sounds have been replaced with sounds of childs laughter.

Actually, that might be creepier...

We can all laugh now, but just wait till it happens :)

Amazon De may just have it wrong, or it may be a world wide delay that the american sites havent picked up on yet, wont know untill its in your hot little hands.

I Concider it a lightning fast development cycle, if they deliver a good product they deserve a pat on the back (even with a week delay) but I am definatly concerned.

Edit: One day we may be buying Computer games from shady people on street corners, and hiding ourselves away enjoying our addiction in secret.

If there was a delay, either the Beta testing threw up a problem/problems which need more time to fix, or the age old battle over optimizing and the game's specs is still undecided.

Ubisoft are still wanting this game released with a 512MB minimum RAM requirement, and the DEVS need the minimum RAM set at 1 GIG. This same argument went on behind the scenes with SH3, where Ubisoft wanted minimum RAM set at 256MB and the DEVS wanted 512MB. Ultimately the DEVS won.

If us on the american side see a delay, then yea.. something is up.. but right now it just seems like an outside of US issue.

Couldn't help but laugh at this - 7 day delay and you guys are getting all worked up! I'd like SH4 released as soon the the next person, but I'd have rather seen a 7 month delay from Ubi to give the devs time and breathing room to add features/enhancements to the title. Just imagine what this talented dev team could accomplish without working under Ubisoft's accelerated development cycle for this project.

hyperion2206
02-09-07, 09:26 AM
It's not a big deal that SH4 gets delayed, but it's just sad that Ubisoft announced a release date which has to be delayed. Why can't the devs do their job and when everything is fine Ubisoft annouces a release date? I know, I know... it's just a Utopia.

TDK1044

I would like to point out that there is no evidence of a delay anywhere except Germany, which may well be a local issue and nothing to do with Ubisoft.

If the game was to be delayed worldwide....so what? The complaint with SH3 was that it was released too early and it wasn't ready. If there is any need to delay this game then they should delay it until it's really ready for release.

I'd rather wait until April than have to patch the game like last time.

I agree with Flintlock. If a delay means less problems with playability, then let's thank them for that. Anticipation of SH4s release and now it's delays won't kill you, but banging your head on the wall because the sim won't work as it should sure will. So remember to pull the nails out or make sure the wall is clear of foriegn objects. ;)

Yep, exactly. If you have to deal with a new game having a ton of issues, and get pissed at it, it can ruin the enjoyment, even when they do get it working.

Once the honeymoon period is over (you've ripped off the cellophane wrapper from the box - hey, it's a short honeymoon) you need a solid and stable gameplay experience or it's back to the Atlantic for the interim! ;)

PS. I'm confident that the dev team will deliver though.

This is so QFT!
SH3 was a technical nightmare for some. And it had at least a few problems for everyone. So much hate flowing on the forums when it was first released. Was a bad scene.
I vote they keep the game as long as they need it to ensure (as much as possible) a finished product upon release.

I'd rather wait until April than have to patch the game like last time.Hey, as I echoed in a post above, I'm all for waiting as long as necessary to get a stable, full-featured product in my hands. That said, I've never understood the disdain that some harbor for patches. As far as I'm concerned, patches are a good thing. They're not always released just to fix things (though fixing things is good in my book), they often enhance the gameplay experience and sometimes they add new content and other goodies. Once SH4 is finally released, I'll be welcoming any patches Ubi sees fit to release. Patches also show continued developer support.

Just in case you live in Germany and don't know : You can order from www.amazon.co.uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk) and they will ship into any EU country. I order most of my games there, because ususally the german speakers make me sick. It's a bit more expensive (shipping and VAT), and you need a credit card, but apart from that there is no difference to ordering in Germany. And as I said, the originals are so much better usually. I also succesfully ordered some french music CD's from amazon.fr when they were unavailable here.

I bought the german version of SHIII because it is authentic to hear German on a U-Boat, but German on a American sub? Nah. That would ruin the athmosphere for me completely. I always want games to be in the authentic language. That's why I played Shogun Total War in Japanese, and why I will play Stalker in Russian, to give some examples.

Unfortunately they are dubbing every game in Germany and ususally the quality is very low. At least if you know what the originals sound like.

It depends.
Anyway after bad expieriences with SHIII Polish version I`ve decided to wait a little more and get the game from UK. SHIII in Poland was delayed for about month IIRC and the 1.4b patch was delayed at least two months, beeing for several weeks the "next week out!" issue.

One week delay is not that much, considering delays are so common. Remember SHIII after the decision was made to create dynamic campaign ? The decision was 100% right but it forced six months delay.
