Hello all,

need your help today. I have returned to play SHIII with the new GWX mod. I also have been using SH3 commander v7 or whatever the latest is. I have encountered a problem and was wondering if somebody could help me save my career. Basically I tried to change my flotilla after a patrol. I then quit and updated via SHComm. One of my officers has gone UA. He does not show up in the baracks. Nor on the Sub in next patrol. I have done all that I can think of with reloading and saving, but he just doesn't show up on the boat, though the game thinks I have 5 officers. Is there a way I could edit a config file or something to erase him from my crew so I can get 4 officers and just buy a new one? Any help would be most appreciated.

Mike

Was your officer on duty in the repair section with his repair crew at the time you returned to base if so it's a stock glitch and your snookered.

You could try rolling your career back.

I seem to remember there were also issues with this if you had him on the bridge when you docked. There was a pretty extensive thread about this about a month-six weeks ago...

Someone had the same problem recently. Hang in there. Someone will show up with a solution

Yep classic SH3 bug.

I guess you had this officer in the Repair section of the U-Boat when you docked or finished the patrol. If you do this then anyone (sailors and officers) who is left in the repair section and not in a 'proper' U-Boat section (Torpedo, engine rooms etc) goes AWOL. The only way you have to bring him back is by loading an earlier save game before he was put on the repair section. Otherwise just release him via SH3Cmd and hire someone new from the baracks screen

thanks all for your help, how do I release him from SH3Comm as i just used him to replace an officer I released to another boat.

Incidentally he was on DC duty, now it appears he will walk the plank. :arrgh!:

So I guess I will roll back one patrol, it wasn't that great anyway.

As for being a bug, I am not suprised, UBIsoft is not exactly reknown for putting out high quality stuff.

To release him is easy. Just follow these steps:

1. Load the game and your career.
2. Go to the barraks screen and note down the names of your officers (they should be 4).
3. Exit the game and fire up SH3Cmd
4. Find the missing officer (by his name) and click on the option 'Allow him to get command of his own boat'
4. Exit SH3Cmd, fire the game, load your career and hire a new one

You can only get rid of him via the promotion route in SH3Commander if he is experienced enough to warrant a promotion to command of his own boat. :yep:
Better to go to the barracks screen and use the 'dismiss' option or better still just go to the previous saved game
