Well, on Sunday my 7 year old monitor decided it couldn't take anymore. It finally blew up. I turned it on and it smelled a little of burning sulfur but I didn't think of it anymore than usual as it has been doing that for quite a while. Monitors that smell of burning sulfur is never a good sign. When it died I couldn't help but look at my watch and say, "Time of dearth: 8:52." :p Well, Windows was partly loaded when I heard a pop from the otherside of the room. It breathed its last. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did being it came with a HP computer. Finally got a new monitor today. A 17" Samsung LCD monitor. The actual viewable screen is SO much bigger than the old 15" (13.9" viewable) CRT monitor. There is so much room on the screen. It will take some getting used to but it sure is spiffy.

I sometimes sit in front of my 19" CRT Philips Brilliance 109P hoping that today is the day that it dies. Considering all the money I have spent recently building a new system it would be about the only way that I could justify to my better half the purchase of a nice 21 or 22" widescreen LCD monitor for which I crave.

Regardless, once you finally sit in front of a 16:9 widescreen display, you'll be glad your 4:3 display went to silicon heaven, trust me.

Hmmm, another use for that half full cup of tea sitting on my desk perhaps? :hmm:

Hmmm, another use for that half full cup of tea sitting on my desk perhaps? :hmm:lol -- that'll definitely do the trick. Just make sure you're standing well back and have a fire extinguisher at the ready. ;)

Nope, 4:3 is still the best aspect ratio for computer monitors.
As for tv, 16:9 is good for watching widescreen movies, but for the classics 4:3 still
