I saw a part of it. But when the commercial came on I started channel surfing. Too many dang commercials on TV these days. :gulp:

The show was on TV again last night. I caught the entire show this time. They showed a lot of the command area and there were a lot of video screens in this area. The one thing that I noticed was that everyone is in one large room together. They say this helps with communications onboard the ship. And all the screens are touch type screens. You touch the screen to do a command which is a nice touch. They said that this boat when going 20 knots is as quiet as the older boats going 5 knots. They use a speical rubber coating on the outer hull and then the floor is isolated from the ships hull by sound proofing devises.
Still the motors that run the coolant pumps will be making a noise and that's hard to hide completley.
I think that the US Navy should add a fuel cell to our Virgina Subs or the next generation should have fuel/air cells as a supplimental power supply for ultra quiet operations. I wonder if this is an engineering possiblity? I don't know but I know somone who does!

I spent most of my time squinting at the tv during the sonar section looking for pingjockey.

I take it it was in the US and not in the UK no listing here on discovery channel here for the USS Texas.

It has never been mentioned that ive seen
but aside from rafting the decks for sound isolation
wouldnt they be using active antinoise technology
by now to mask the pumps and motors further.
would an anti wave cancelled noise still be detectable
even though you cant hear it with your ears.
after all it isnt the removal of sound but the addition
of twice as much just out of phase.?
