Just been to a German forum where they discussed SH4 and I swear I've never seen so many morons in 1 place! They were behaving like little children. One guy was sure that everybody is a dickhead who thinks that German technology was better than American technology or that it is stupid to place SH4 in the pacific because US subs only played a minor roll.
I've never seen such ignorance (which is a typicall German characteristic I believe) and I'm really happy to have found that place where one can have nice arguments (without being insulted).

Here we have spirited but respectful discussions. And when things look like they're about to get out of control, the hand of Gizzmoe enters the equation!!!!!
I respect this Forum and the views expressed here. I don't always agree with the views expressed, but there are a lot of knowledgeable people contributing here.
Long live SUBSIM

I agree, subsim is mega, but you might want to refrase the "all Germans are ignorant"-bit, mate. I`m no German, but I would have been kinda pissed off if I was.
Edit: I just saw you are from/in Germany. Hehe, now I`m confused.

Hehe, although I was born in Germany it does not meen that I like it. In fact I do believe that many Germans are ignorant and unfriendly. Some of you may say that this is just a cliché but I've got my own experience:arrgh!:. If you don't believe me follow the link and read how they insult each other.:nope:

While waiting for the six-months-delayed SH3 I spent some time at the UBI boards. I don't go there anymore.
Hyperion, a lot of people everywhere are ignorant and unfriendly. Many of the bad things people say about Americans are true, but there are good folks everywhere too. Personally I like Germans, but then my grandmother was one, so I guess I'm biased.
Oh yeah: if it wasn't for Subsim, I'd likely have gone back to Aces and SHI long ago.

In fact I do believe that many Germans are ignorant and unfriendly. You can safely say that about many people of every nation in the civilized world. If you find an unfriendly and/or ignorant person, then that quality is of that individual--don't paint an entire nation with a broad brush.
One thing I'll agree with you is that subsim is indeed a great community.

It is hard to find a mature GAMING community on the internet. I moderate a two forums for 2 different half life games, one isn't too bad, the other.. there is contant talk that would not be allowed here... although we are cracking down on that soon.

No rivalry as far as I'm concerned. Also no comparison. It's just that when we were waiting for SHIII I spent a lot of time there as well as here, and half the threads were filled with people calling each other names, and the others had titles like "Bestest Acting Totty", which was full of everybody's favorite bikini models. It got old fast. In fact so many people wanted to argue with Beery that when he came here to work on the RUB mod a few of them followed him here, and then proceeded to do nothing but post about how awful he was. They didn't stay long.
The UBI boards are fine for the most part; they just have a higher tolerance level for nonsense and childish behaviour.

Thats the truth Boris!!! There are A-holes all over. It is just a matter of finding a forum with decent people like Subsim. Sure, we get into some heated discussions but there is no brow beating someone into submission over a fact or opinion. Usually you find the immature on the company that created the game site and offered up a forum for it. Through anonymity on the forums they can say whatever they want and get away with it. Often it is best to ignore them and they go away.

I'm the creator of that thread and I was just complaining about the attitude some people have at the Ubi forums and that I liked subsim because that never happens here. Nothing more and nothing less. However I did not make any comments concerning physical features of African Americans.

Dont you find it hypocritical to Bag and insult germans (calling them morons and ignorant) for the way they are talking to one another, when you are talking about them in exactly the same way ? You say it never happends here, but this thread is an example that it does.

I'm a German living in Germany and I do think that compared to Americans Germans are less friendly. If you think that it is not true that's fine.
Perhaps I'm a bit touchy but I don't think one should crack 'jokes' like you did. They're just distasteful and are not appropriate for minors which do visit that forum as well.

As I said your not required to laugh, if you find it distasteful thats fine.
However you are out of touch with the minors you refer to, as they talk far worse than my relativly inocent play on words.
I cant tell you weather germans are less friendly or not, there are good and bad in all races and coutries as far as I am concerned, but I think you need to lighten up and find a reason to smile. I cant help you with that, but I did at least try, if you read my post furthur up.

: Its not about winning, its about education,
From my experience, squabbles on messageboards are entirely about winning. They all seem to boil down to the desire to get the last and final word in. Which is somehow seen as sort of a proxy victory over the other person or persons. It's all about, "I am right and you are wrong". Said squabbles tend to go on and on and on, until somebody gets the last word in.

Just a little philosophical note, mateys.....
People who start a discussion, just to "win" it, has lost it before it even starts.. A discussion isnt about proving anyone wrong or right, a discussion is to make sure that new knowledge can be passed on & aquired. Its fairly easy to spot people who has other thing in mind, early in the discussion... Carry out all discussions with outmost humbleness, you never know who you are talking to on the "other side". That goes for both parties in a discussion.

Oh _Seth_... Almost as naive as me. :) I'd like it to be the way you describe it, but all my experience tells me that discussions are _never_ about the truth, they're all about winning. Escpecially on forums, where the truth is found by... voting. :rotfl: And sadly all I found in Schopenhauer's "Retorics" (don't know full English title, you surely know the book) is all true. :)
Back on topic: one more thing I hate in SubSim: You can't shoot nor blast anyone. Really annoying, sometimes.

Abd, my friend, never stop believing that you can make a change by your own apperances. There are some folks out there, with only one goal; to make as much trouble as they can. You are right in your thoughs, mate, Arthur Schopenhauer, Aristotle & Seneca is well represented in forums, no doubt..
