hello again folks, can you please clarify;
I need to tweak the TC settings so I can get to my patrol area in something less than a week, and get down the Kiel canal between meals, and several of you have advised me as to what I need to do - but I cannot find any such settings in Options (I am in GWX but do not have any other mods). I also looked in the games files for a certain folder which I understand would allow me to set the TC's manually, but I couldn't find that either. Also, someone mentioned 3D settings - was ist das? Sorry to be so dim, not firing on all cylinders today.
Also, I would like to play three songs from BlackHawk Down on the gramaphone to pass the time ( the crew won't let me in on their card game), can I do that? I see that the gramaphone songs have a different file extension and so suppose I cannot simply add the files to that folder.
Ta :)

I'll try to talk you through it.
First of all start SH3 commander.
The hit the options button on the lower left.
When you do that you'll be given a further 4 options
Career options
Text options
Gameplay settings
Time Compression
You'll be needing the 4th option (Time Compression)
In that you can adjust all the TC settings as you like.
Hope this helps
Good Luck

thanks Robbo, appreciate your help - I think Sh3 Commander is a mod I have to download, yes? It doesn't come with the game I think, or with GWX? I will see if I can find it, the guides mention it I recall.

Hi, I can answer to the bottom part; if the tracks you have are in mp3 format then you should be able to add them but recommend doing this in port. You can convert your songs to OGG. with a software conversion tool. There are many out there that will do the job and I'm sure some-one will come along soon with a recommendation of one

Yes She-wolf it's a mod and you should be able to find it here in the downloads section. I can't reccomend it enough. It needs a couple of extra files which you should have downloaded with GWX, If you don't have them I'm sure someone here will have

If you go to the Mods Workshop section, it is the 6th post down, you will see a link for SH3Commander 2.7.

thank you Robbo, I have located and installed and tweaked. As you say, someone will tell what else I need :D
Kpt Munson, AAC format, courtesy of iTunes. Is that changeable I wonder. I will look out for the file conversion tool you speak of - thank you

Look here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/
This Program Requires Nero Burn v5 or Higher
Nero Burn v5 or later comes with an AAC compression codec which can be used with dBpowerAMP Music Converter (on the fly compression, no temporary wave files). Neros AAC codec can create two types of AAC: LC and HE compression. Low Complexity (LC) is the common AAC standard, where as High Efficiency (HE) uses SBR technology (not too different as mp3PRO) if the player knows about HE (currently not many portable players know) the extra frequency information can be decoded, otherwise half the audio quality will be missing on playback.
Files created are wrapped in a mp4 container (see codec central for a Codec to extract the AAC audio from the mp4 container). Install the latest update to Nero so the newest codecs are installed.

dear Jimbuna, that is a wealth of information, thankyou :)
As a temp measure, I downloaded from elsewhere the same songs that I have bought from iTunes, but in mp3 or mp4 format ( I think). They appeared to convert to .ogg format without a problem, but they do not get played when I go through the gramophone choices ( yes, I did put them in the same folder). So... dunno. Have to work on it and follow your advice when I am feeling better ( chest infection, miserable).
Also, we are going down to Gosport sometime soon and I will get to see what it is like in a real submarine

Your very welcome
You may want to check that you are pasting your files using a location/path similar to this:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIIIGWX\data\Sound\Gramop hone

I visited the submarine museum in Gosport a couple of years ago, well worth the trip and a good day out for those interested in subs. Hope you enjoy it.

Jimbuna, they DO! Thank you, cheered me up. And the TC tweak is working so I can make headway down the canal at a reasonable rate.
Captain Nemo, looking forward to it :D. There used to be an old sub parked in the water past the Hilsea Lido, and you could see it from Portsdown Hill. That is the closest I have been to a sub. It looked awful small... being squashed into one of those for months at a time, even in peace time, could not have been a pleasant experience. Very basic living I imagine.
