View Full Version : GWX Minefield Charts
The other day I discovered that I was leading a dangerous life. I was unaware of our minefields in friendly harbours. Luckily, I didn't enter any of these fields. I think Seth alerted me to the existence of minefield charts on the top left hand side of the navigation station, next to the convoy route chart.
If you are not aware of the existence of this chart, take a quick look. It may keep you from the Kaleun's Vallhalla :know: .
For your info: the latest instalment of the adventures of U-551 been posted on my website. (gripping reading, I'm told ) :D

Tis the reason you have an escort out of port also
He will lead you out avoiding the minefields

He will lead you out avoiding the minefields:up::up: True! But i think the escort is moving to slow. I often end up colliding with him.. Maybe because Bernard is at the helm, but anyway..

Tis always possible to increase the speed if too many ppl feel the same

The escort is nearly always going at 7-8kts. It seems logical as this is the most fuel efficient speed for your U-Boat.
Just over-take him. After awhile at a certain port you get to know the route that your escort takes anyway.

Lol @ Seth: I've had this trouble myself, matey. Usually I just Ahead Standard to get by him and waypoint my way out of port.
Bernard has been responsible for mishaps in port on my boat too. On the Nav map one time, talking over the route with the Navigator when we hear the swishing of the minesweepers engines getting louder. Jump to the bridge and see him closing on my starboard side. Rudder left 10 degrees, slow to One Third.......Wait! I said LEFT you idiot! Noooooooo!
***Metal screeching, men cursing***
Bernaaaaaaaard!!!! :damn: :damn: :damn:
Maybe I'm just being superstitious, but I won't EVER sail with a crewman named Bernard onboard. I've had to set up multiple careers repeatedly due to BdU trying to sneak him on board my boat. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Yeah, i know most of the routes by now, but for instance: in Lorient, the thight port increases the possibility to run into the escort, or making him reverse and run into the docks.. Could the escort be moved further out, and maybe activated by a trigger on departure?

Now that I've been privy to these conversations, I can hand all your names over to the proper authorities. Harbors do have speed limits, you know.:stare:
Best thing in Lorient is to match the escorts speed, but stay at least 200 meters behind it. That way you won't cause it to run aground.
I've noticed that once at sea out of Lorient, and at the beginning of the channel, the escort can and will take off in different directions from the course you set for your Uboat. That's why it's always advisable to use the Minefiels/Subnet charts. Or at least remember where they are to stear clear of them. Once out in open waters you are on your own. ;)
At Whilhelmshaven, the escort guides you all the way out past the nets and mines. Seems they're more thoughtful there of your Uboat and want to see you safe. ;)

Ehhh..I didnt imply breaking any speed limits....Ehhh...It was Bernard.....ehh..the throttle stuck.....Ehhhh..I was in a hurry, gettin' to sea, someone spotted the "hood" doing some fishing outside france...ehhh...

Learned two things today off you, I thought it was just eye candy. Maybe I'll RTFM, but then that would break into playing time.
:nope: How hard can it be to set your speed to 7-8kt? I'm with Sailor Steve. You aren't pulling water skiers in port so slow down and enjoy the view!

Thats why i printed out the Minefield chart, the Image is small, But the image viewer I used (slowview) scales it to page with little pixelation.

I agree TJ and Sailor Steve. It's not a race track. Things will get rough enough once you're out to sea.
Besides BDU might just make Bernard the Kaptain and send you off to the Russian Front to cool your heels. Explain that to your mother.... if you can.

Where do you find these minefield and convoy route charts ? I've looked all over the top left of the navigation station and see nothing. Is this a mod I havn't added ?

They are in GWX and IIRC NYGM
They are not in the original game

I have GWX running and I don't see them.
....
Forget it. I found them. Bernard thought they were toilet paper and put them in the john. Thank the maker that our medic brought along a box of rubber gloves for this trip.

Waterskiers? Umm, that's a visual--towing Bernard in shark infested waters or over a minefield. Any Penang volunteers? :rotfl: :rotfl:
