View Full Version : Attacking Convoy With Bernard
16 February 1941. U-103
At night, rough seas, depth of water 80 meters. We approach convoy at PD. A black Swan heads toward our position at slow speed, which makes me nervous. I have one torpedo set and ready to go. The Black swan closes to 150 meters, apparently unaware of our presence.
I watch the sloop get nearer through the scope.
To make sure it is working, Bernard presses the firing button. Whoosh, torpedo Loooos! :dead:
Apparently unaware of Bernard's brilliant launch. The Black Swan continues on its course and passes within fifty meters of U-103.
10 minutes later I fire two torpedoes at a large cargo and one at a medium one. Both ships sink. :smug:
Even with Bernard's screams as I tried to throttle him, the escorts never bothered us. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hey Von Mansee!
Warhawk is also in the area. Damn near enough to start a flotilla. Gotta make sure we don't shoot torpedoes at each other :sunny:
Bernard has the power to come back to life, I should know the times I killed him for his errors.

I have prevented some of Bernards intervention with the use of a small flat-head screwdriver.
And removed the secondary Enter/Return key. :stare:
 OK, this is what really happened--Situation as described. My game gets a bit jerky near convoys and cursor difficult to place in correct position. So I had the cursor over the firing button. Click, whoosh, oh sh*t!
Glad we have Bernard, the most useful officer in SHIII/GWX. :yep:

I'm over here in Point Pleasent. Sitting on Marley Creek scanning the waters for vessels to sink...well jet skis and pleasure craft:shifty:. If you want we can start construction of sub pens in the creek. I'm about 1/2 mile from the bay proper. From there we access the Atlantic:up: We score a bushel of crabs and keg of beer before we go!

Burping crab and beer -- not a bad way to start a patrol. Will my IXB sumbie fit into the creek? :/\\x:

Were you using GWX? Because I can think of only two words to relate to a situation like that. Death, and tears :rotfl:

My God men!!! At the rate we are going here in Maryland we will have a full crew in no time:up:
@Brag yes the IX will fit just nicely in the creek. In fact a whole flotilla will fit along with the Bizmark. Not deep enough to submerge but we leave at nightfall! Just in case, we drop some crabbing nets and trolling lines like we are fishing. No one will know the difference;)
LOL.. I'm up here in Bear, Delaware near Elkton MD. And come this spring I plan on visiting the Aberdeen Proving Gounds. Heck, maybe we can all meet there some weekend. Or better yet, you guys meet me at MAAM for the WWII Weekend the first weekend in June.

Yup, GWX. I thought my proverbial goose, career, renown, time invested in a good crew. My new sumbie (IXB) all going dow the drain. :nope:

Fire that Bernard... Who care about sloops and fire torpedoes to it...
Wait... Write this incident to your daily... in a detailed way... When Bdu see the daily and see that Bernard's excellent job, he will 'promote' him and ask him to go to the Eastern front against those Russians

Hell Shadow, I'm just off Furnace Branch, sitting between Marley Creek and Furnace Creek. You know, the penisula with 5 bars on the beach...burp:smug: We be in the same flotilla:up: We probably frequent the same Best Buy and CompUSA here in Glen Burnout MD. If you see a maroon Lincoln Continental in the parking lot I'm probably inside drooling over a new videocard!
