Just saw that Gamespot has a new 6 minute trailer up.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/silenthunter4/media.html

As always SH4 is looking as great as ever. We get to see some video of the new "adversial mp mode", and the S-Class too.
I also noticed there appears to be a slight transparancy to the water aswell.

I thought there were new ones there that I hadn't seen, but it was just the dev diaries. Oh well.

Downloading newest trailer now.

Dissection time:up:!

They call Naval Academy Submarine School? That's so cozy! (er, don't ask)
I also like that Quick Missions are now apparently not just an MP feature (I want to play them by myself with time compression).
MP destroyer command is even more awesome than I thought it'd be. You're actually given that much control of the destroyers? Awesome:o!

Thanks for the tip, some nice shots of the transparency effect

Which got me thinking... how awesome would it be to see a pod of dolphins swimming alongside with this water. Please let there be dolphins!!! If there are I hope they follow the sub like they would in RL.

Wow. I'm impressed by everything in that trailer (except for the practice of surfacing in front of battleships :88) )

Graphics are fantastic, adversarial mode looks great, the interiors are really nice, and I'm again very much liking what I see of the interface.

Totally agree with you, mate! Surfacing that close in real-life would certainly have ruined the day.. Well, let the subsim-modders fix that one.... :yep::up::up:

Eh, I think it's more for trailer purposes. Hell, that's how I got some of my best screenshots in SHIII :p'

I don't imagine it'll be any more... possible in campaign than it is in SHIII.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention - the S class! :D I think we now have definite evidence she's in and looking good!

By the way, did anyone catch the classes in the menu? It went Balao, Gato, Porpoise, S Class, Salmon... but there looked to be a scrollbar. What are they hiding? Maybe room for V-class? :p

EDIT: I hope the players will be able to turn off the music....The tune playing when the torpedoes hit that japanese ship was just......annoying...Kinda made me think of a hybrid between MacGyver & David Hasselhoff..... Yack..:-?

Head for the mountains, freeze yourself in the snow, have someone dig you up and thaw you when the release date comes around. Just make sure you're not covered by an avalanche, and get buried too deep. You'll get thawed in 2546, where they have no computer games, and the only link to the past is a time phone which you must use to convince your past self not to freeze himself.

Or by then we have invented something simliar to the Star Trek hollow deck, and silent hunter XXVI is out... now you REALLY relive WW2. :D Oddly enough, harbors are once again empty.

I was actually referring to an episode of southpark where Cartman freezes himself because he can't wait for the Nintendo Wii

This explains the whole concept: :D

BTW: has anyone got the hi-res version of the trailer?

Watched this trailer again for the 5th time.

Frankly I am a bit troubled by the amount of damage caused by the torp. that hits the Kongo class BB. A BATTLESHIP is hit by a single torp. and it basically bursts into flame and sinks? And, the explosion sets fires all along the ship - even tho' later in the trailer we see that the hit was aft of the X turret. Doesn't look too accurate to me.

Let's hope that this was "jazzed up" for demo purposes.

That bothered me too, a single torpedo and the thing sinks almost instantly.

I don't think you could even sink a WWI-era battleship with a single torpedo. There's a reason why they put anti-torpedo bulges over those ship's vitals, along with protective bulkheads for the ammunition magazines and multiple watertight compartments. There's also a good reason why they didn't put a big tank full of explosive gasoline in the middle of the ship, and put the magazines inside the hull.

Anyway, I think the battle being recreated in this trailer is the Battle of Samar. At about 3:20 you can see the escort carrier St Lo exploding after being hit by a kamikaze.

rodan54
02-02-07, 05:22 PM
I don't think we need worry about the ships being too easily sunk. Recall the E3 demo trailer for SHIII where the Nelson goes down with just one torpedo, while on high realism settings in the finished game she could take about 3 or 4 (the Kongo was sunk with 3 torpedos). So I'm sure the realism settings (sinking time/damage) were set lower for demonstration purposes.

I think it looks pretty smart. I hope there is a switch to turn off the music! It was somewhat cheesy. All in all, I think we are on to something good. I also noticed men now in the conning tower. That was not there on one of the first small diary films. Also the wierd Amish bearded dude was gone or I might have missed him. That man looked like he should be hunting Moby Dick:o . I believe we are in for a real treat.

This bearded guy was on that sub because it had a special mission to accomplish. HQ had the plan to hunt down all (sperm) whales so that the Japanes would have to starve.:rotfl:

I noticed that, too. I thought it must be a placeholder, but of course, it's possible that they were playing on 3% accuracy and that there's a "Proton Torpedo warheads" option:p.

Should fit nicely, shouldn't it?

I think the general opinion is that the game itself looks good, but the music stinks. They must think we are a bunch of real cornballs to want that as a sound track. I'm hoping someone can mod the Das Boot soundtrack in there

Boris
02-04-07, 09:59 PM
After having watched the trailer umpteen times the music has really grown on me. With the exception of the über-corny torpedo hit tune, the rest is really good IMO. It's along the same veins as the SH3 music, but more refined. Of course it has that "hollywood" feel to it, but they've managed to make it sound nice and naval.

EDIT: After listening to it again, I think the music is great. I'm a big fan of movie soundtracks, composers such a zimmer, goldsmith, williams etc., amd the music from this trailer measures up pretty good. I know I'll be humming these tunes after a while.

Pretty much agree 100%, but is there a gramophone included as in SH3, or just pre-defined tracks and is it possible to mod those tracks to, say, Grey Wolf mod...
That mod is gonna blow huge!:smug:

Boris
02-05-07, 05:10 AM
Well the in game music will undoubtedly work just like it did in SH3. As for the grammophone, not sure if they kept it. But there is a way cooler feature IMO, and that is being able to pick up regional radio broadcasts.
I can always have my itunes playing in the background if there's no grammophone.
