First of all a friendly hello to all the Captains here!
I just bought SH3 two weeks ago and I was instantly addicted :D
I saw GWX and read about it and decided to give it go. I dled it installed it it ran great.
It's got to be the best mod for any game I've ever played!!!
I had just gotten my first few GWX kills I saved the game shortly thereafter and exited.
When I tried to run gwx again the game would get to the first load screen get about a 3rd of the way then I'd get a message saying sorry SH3 has encountered a problem and must shut down. and then gives me an option to send an error report It does it every time now.
I must have ran the game at least 6 times before that with no problems. I made sure my drivers are most recent and defraged to no avail. Can anyone help?

Welcome Aboard Matey :sunny:
To use GWX -
You must have SH3 + 1.4b patch.
The installation must be 'clean' (i.e no file changes or mods)
You can't use any previous career saves.
Other possible problems -
All mods (to be safe;)) must be enabled whilst in port after a patrol.
Any file changes must be done the same way.
SH3Cmdr must be rolled back (if you use it).
Save Bugs, saving too near ports, ships or while submerged.
Possible solution -
Try loading the career save directly before you started having problems.
Try a new career to see if you experience the same problem.
Run the MD5 Checker program to make sure your d/l of GWX is not corrupted.
Last resort -
Roll back SH3Cmdr
Unistall SH3
Remove SH3 folder in My Docs
Remove Registry entries relating to SH3 (if you're happy doing this)
Reinstall SH3
Patch to 1.4b
Run GWX installer
Enable the Dec 23rd Fix's
Try again.

a detailed walk through the manual will help in dealing with and avoiding many

Remove Registry entries relating to SH3 (if you're happy doing this)
Just Unninstall SH3 via
My Pc -> Control Panel : Software
scroll the list for SH3
And press the Unninstall button.
if you run the uninstall.exe the Registry will be taken care of.

After running the Uninstall, do a search and locate the Silent Hunter directory. Delete the Silent Hunter directory. Do the same for SH3 Commander.
The uninstall does not remove all the files from this directory so when you do a reinstall you will have a conflict when you try to reinstall the 1.4 patch.
If you don't already have it, I use and recommend a free program called Crap Cleaner (or CCleaner). Do a Google search to find. Run the "cleaner" and the "issues" before you do the reinstall. You'll be surprised to see what this removes in leftover files, temp files, etc. I always run the cleaner and the issues before I close down my laptop. Also, run the issues until it finds none because it doesn't get them all in the first or second pass.

Welcome to Subsim
Before unistalling
Did you add\enable any other mods\addons when on patrol - ie not in base ?
And when you get the error message if you click the more details it should tell you the problem
IE Sim.Act etc
Helps narrow down the cause
Another thing you can try is to rename your SH3 folder in my documents
Run the game so it creates a new one
May be a simple problem there with the main.cfg

Thanks for all the help and welcomes
I was in port when I loaded GWX, But then kept playing my original Career.
It played fine for awhile it freezes on the initial load screen.
I'll try some of the methods stated above and hopefully they'll work
Again thank you all for the help! :p I'll let you know how it goes

Generally speaking you should not be playing a career that started in SH3 in GWX, as problems might appear. I would suggest you start a brand new one. That way you will not have any problems at all.

I got it working and started a new career in GWX. So hopefully I won't run into that again.

It seems the problem was that I played my stock SH3 career in GWX. Didn't know you couldn't :damn:
I had to go to the last resort of removing and reinstalling SH3 then started a new GWX career. It's been working fine ever since :D Plus found two convoys on my first patrol. In stock I never found convoys...I'm so Happy :sunny:

Hello everyone. I'm having the same problem Eagle Eye was having. I completely removed everything and reinstalled with 1.4 patch twice now and still keeps happening. I make sure everything is of in the background and no security is on.It was starting about every 10th try but now it won't do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:damn:

Welcome aboard kaleun Jaystoke :arrgh!:
Great info...I need clarification...since there is so much to digest....2nd week playing SH3.
1. After starting a new career its OK to save the career when out of port at least how far 100nm? Should I be surfaced...does it matter?
2. To enable more MODS through JSGME (bad spelling) I can be docked at a port, any friendly port, or home port?
3. Last question for today, if I do dock at a friendly port and not home port, how do I exit the game? "EXIT SAVE GAME" which do I chose after pressing the ESC key?
Thanks!

1. Anything over 50km and best to be surfaced.
2. In port at end of mission.
3. Save and Exit.
