From the "Hunt" guide in the newbie sticky area:
"CHUG-chug-chug-chug CHUG-chug-chug-chug CHUG-chug-chug-chug... his four bladed propelar turns 28 times per minute. For a C2 that kind of engine effort translates into 7 knots :know: ... speed confirmed  (if this was way over your head don't worry, there's an excellent academy mission download for training yourself in the use of the sonar, done by Grayrider and Captain Nautilus I beleive)"
I went through the downloads list in the sticky but couldn't find this mission . Anyone know where this gem is stored? (Probably hidden behind a bunch of hanging sausages or bananas.)
Bilge Rat out.

Go to this page (http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches2005.html) and hit ctrl+f then type in "Sound Trainer" It should bring you right to the file.
Note: Sound Trainer does NOT work with GWX

Rats. I saw a thread earlier though on how to enable separate instances of basic SH3 and GWX, so I'll give that a shot. Being able to tell target speed from prop wash sounds is just too cool.
Thanks for the tip!

just replace the GWX propeler sounds with the stock ones and thats it. you can now use the RPM chart freely.

Hi everyone.
I saw this program a few months ago and downloaded it to my hard drive. Since I am new to this forum I do not know if it is Legal (freely distriibuted) to send to you. If it is ok to download it is available. Do aany of you Captains know the policy on this?

Thanks! Does the GWX install overwrite the stock propeller sounds, or are they still somewhere on the drive? And you wouldn't happen to know what kind of file it is? Sorry to keep asking all the nub questions - I'm using the Hunt Guide and Wazoo's Guide as much as I can, as well as the Wiki, but I keep hitting stumbling points.

Yes, GWX overwrites the stock prop sounds.

Yes, GWX overwrites the stock prop sounds.
So the only way to get the old SH3 sound file is to install SH3 without GWX, find the propeller sounds file, save it, then install GWX, and use the saved SHIII file to replace the GWX file?
Thanks for the help.

Rename your current install from SilentHunterIII to GWX
Whack the DVD in the drive
Hit install
Hit repair
Now you will get a brand new SilentHunterIII folder with the stock game
Patch to 1.4b and you have a fresh install incase needed plus you can rob stock files from it
Rename your new install Stock and rename your old install back to SilentHunterIII
That way SH3commander knows where to go still

Most cunning, Herr Big! Thanks!
however, even when you replaced the GWX sound files, you cannot fully enjoy Greyriders chart... do not forget that the GWX team added a lot of new ships to the game and these new ships are not included in the sound trainer. So you will not be able identify all the sounds nor count the RPM of all ships (e.g. pyro ammunition, large merchant etc.). There is no GWX RPM chart...
