my computer crashes randomly while in use.no boxes come up it just shuts down and sometimes several times in succession but usually its ok(for a while )after being left a bit befor restarting.im advised that this may be a fan problem.what does people think?

it seemed to happen more when i ran scandisk befor i uninstalled a complex game from the HD.after that it (scandisk)ran ok but the shut downs still happen.

Well, then check the fan... :)

If the system also shuts down when it´s not under load it´s likely to be a problem with the PSU or the mainboard (look for bulged or leaking capacitors).

Do you hear the fan? Is it blowing?
It could be a software problem. Delete all folders that were left from your previous uninstalled programs. Turn power off for three minutes as memory can stay active for that long after shutdown (Trust me it can). Restart and reinstall whatever you uninstalled previously and see if that fixes it.

I think it was more when it was under a load.
it was under more load in scandisk befor i removed train sim and about ten addons.but it wasnt the addons themselves coz it still happens.mostly on games not so much inet browsing.
