i'm running GW 1.1 (with the random weather mod), will upgrade to GWX when i end my current career.

anyway, i hate the way the weather works in this game.

it seems like it's either-

1. perfectly nice
2. slightly choppy
3. rough seas
4. very rough
5. hurricane/never ending storm/ heavy fog.

why can't there be light rain?

why do the storms have to last for weeks on end?

my last patrol in made contact with a convoy and shadowed it for 8 or 9 days in the middle of an apparent hurricane.

8 days? 9 days?

my current patrol i made contact with a convoy and shadowed it for about 3 days whilst in the middle of a major storm.

i had to go to periscope depth every 1-2 hours to make hydrophone checks as the convoy kept making course changes.

after about my 60th dive to periscope depth my crew just about had a mutiny so i broke off contact and started heading towards my designated patrol area.

what is the longest you other captains have been caught in a storm?

i hope they fix the weather in sh4.

light rain would be cool, without heavy fog.

just because it's raining doesn't mean there has to be fog.

squalls would be cool.

a 4 hour rain storm would be cool....not 4 days. not 5 days. not 6 days. not 7 days.

damn i hate the weather.

Personally I like the weather, any of the books I have read, especially regarding the Atlantic Theatre, the weather was hell.

The weather is ok for me. I believe quite a few weather systems were just miserable for days. Weeks? No! But many days? Yes. Heck, even where I live I have seen 5-6 days of nothing but rain. So IMHO it is not to far off the mark. Also, I think some of the hurricanes in the game are quite weak. Some of these hurricanes were strong enough to break the backs of some vessels.

A hurricane is around 100 knots winds. The most we get in SH3 is 30 knots, and anybody who has lived in these regions will tell you that you get a lot more than 30 knots storms.
So in fact the weather in SH3 is tuned down. Only problem is to have heavy fog with high speed winds, but this is solved by using SH3 Weather as stated above.
The problem of weather change comes also from the SH3 function that resets the "weather change counter" to zero every time you make a save.

I had this once. Really close to the west side of England. A Liberty came out of the fog on calm seas. I was tracking it with sonar only as I could only see it at about 800m and just a ghostly shape at that. Anyway she was 90 degrees to me going slow and down she goes.

I have been attacking and trailing a convoy for 3 days now in clouded weather with fog, light rain, medium waves etc. Three runs made, 1 --> Two pyro's, 2 --> Two large cargo's, 3 --> The large tanker in the middle!

Two DD's, on up front, one at the side. I am, ofcourse hehe, on the other side. One pyro on fire since the first run. She is my light in the night. Fog is my daytime friend... shhhh... limited sight, no planes. Perfect.

Shhh... they might hear me, this is getting surgical ;)

Does the weather counter speed up with TC?

Nope, the weather checks are done according to the game time from what I understand. And weather check doesn't mean weather change, there is a probability that after check weather stays the same.
Anyway I am a SH3 Weather user and I like it. Haven't tried the last version yet, just installed it. (Available in the mods workshop forum)

Do we know about how long the interval is that the game checks to see if it will do a weather change?

So we are talking realtime checks here right? TC will not have an effect? I have to actually sit at the computer X amount of time for a change?

I read somewhere that there is a random chance of the weather changing every six hours ingame time. Not sure what TC does to that though.

say for example you were doing a mission in 1x tc, would you see the weather change gradually or would it just instantly change or because your in 1x tc would the weather even change at all??

In my situation I sometimes only get an hour or so a day to play SHIII using the save game feature at the end of each session. If the weather counter gets reset at every save and exit point, and the weather changes every six hours of game time, I should still have the calm whether that I had when I left port. However, since leaving port, the weather has changed to rough seas and rain and now just rough seas and very overcast. I run at 128 TC between waypoints.

What I hate the most is the feeling that the weather may get stuck in it's current behavior. Am currentöy doing a patrol outside Cuba, and it's like a hurricane and has been like that for at least 7 days now!

There's always hurricanes around there.

I'm currently running a 1x mission on the western approaches. Yesterday the weather was partial clouds with wind at 4 m/s. Now it's overcast, medium fog and wind speed at 7 m/s. So it does change, even at 1x.
