Hello folks. Not too many of you seem to do the single missions, but as I feel I need all the practice I can get ( and having seen Wazoo's (?) manual on getting solutions, that is going to be a LOT) I am plodding my way through them - and enjoying it. However this one I am not sure if I have completed.
I have sunk two warships after one was taking pot-shots at the tanker I was to rendezvous with, which eventually got sunk. As soon as I had seen that aggressor off, another plume of smoke appeared on the horizon, and in due course I did for him as well. So... what was I supposed to do then? Head for home? Where is home? Or should I have hung around or wandered around hoping for another target. I figured, if I was to refuel with this tanker, but haven't, I ought not to be using up what diesel I had left going in circles....

Once you sink all the ships in the area or you run out of torpedoes or you get tiered and bored you can press ESC and end the mission. Usually each mission doesn't last more than 30-45 minutes.

Yes when you press escape it says, "abandon mission?", but you don't want to abandon it, just want to get home.

It's true, but if you match all the missions requirements it should say 'end mission'. In any case the result is the same, so I don't really think it's such a big deal.
Hi SheWolf:
Glad to see you practicing the deadly craft. Soon, you will feel confident enough to start the challenges of a career. Don't rush and have fun

thank you Brag - that link looks interesting, but could not access it when I tried. Maybe later.
thanks t'others too for advice. I won't get too fussed about it if I don't get the completion notice.

:hmm: The mission in question is the " Brake " IIRC
So you are in the Indian Ocean - the nav map will show you where you are
If I find myself in the same position I usually take myself of hunting and sightseeing
BTW the 2 DD you sunk were part of a small carrier force
If you head for the direction they came from ( N ) you should meet up with them

awww... I will have to do it again now, can't leave the job half done.
The next mission is making me work hard too, trying to shake off the guards so I can get to periscope depth and find a merchant to take a pop at - but I will go back to number 3 - s'all good practice. thanks bigboy:D

Do it the hard way like I did.. start a carreer, and learn on the fly. read the forums, and grow. Its the most rewarding part of this, the feeling of getting better and better.

I think mooncatt is right johan. For me it would be a case of getting killed over and over, and instead of enjoying it I would likely get discouraged with my own inability and walk away ( sob). Tuffnuts like you probably would rise to the challenge. I agree about learning from the forums and growing though -absolutely!:D

If you're affraid you will not survive a career I would suggest you alter the realism settings. There is no need to play at 100% realism. Try unticking the 'Realistic Vulnerability' of your boat for example that way you will be able to sustain more punishment from DDs. Single Missions are fine but they do get a bit boring after a while. I would suggest you try a career in 1939 and slowly increase the realism settings until you're happy with the level of challenge from the AI

Ok Mel, I will give your suggestions a try, though it feels a bit like cheating. I do have most of the realisms in place I think, except for the time it takes to reload torpedoes, and the cameras, but perhaps, as bigboy said when I first joined, I need to have a less steep learning curve to give myself a chance. I want to learn to find manual solutions too, which will be a challenge for me as I do not really understand how to use the tools - but then if there was no challenge, where would be the fun? As johan says, 'getting better and better' is a great reward. PS the sig is an experiment!
