I am in the market for a new graphics card and have contemplated getting the BFG GeForce 7950 GT 512 mb GDDR3 SLI PCI Express card for a Core 2 Duo 2.4 gig computer that I am going to build. Will this card work for SH4 cause I have heard
some people have had trouble with it? I had had Radeon cards thus far using the x800xt 256mb AGP card and have had good luck with it with sh3. My brother and I plan to build this computer here pretty soon and just wanted some ideas if the GeForce would be the best buy as I can get that for 249$ at TigerDirect and less rebate would be $229. If you think t here is another card that would be better let me here your ideas? Thanks u-5000

I think the GeForce 7950GT is a good card. Personal opinion, I'd go with XFX rather than BFG. Is your OS going to be Vista or XP? If I was building up a PC with the OS as Vista, I'd be looking at a different card.

The computer i play games on uses Duel 7950gts. I have found the 7950gt is a great card. It can run any current games without any slowdown and this years games shouldnt be much of a problem for the card either. I havnt had any problems with the cards so far and i dont think you would. SH3 runs flawless and im sure running SH4 wont put any strain on the card either. Plus with your Duel 2.4 it will be a power house. I recon its a good investment

I am planing on using the Windows xp home edition as OS. I should of given other specs of computer.Segate 320 gb SATA-11 hd,2 gb ram, will use the intel DG965RYCK intel Socket 775 ATX motherboard/Audio/video/PCI Express/Gigabit LAN/ USB 2.0 & Firewire/Serial ATA. Also will have an Ultra Floppy Drive 7-in-1 2.0 Internal Media Drive. Also will take my old sound card of my other Computer which is the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card made by dell so will cut a few corners in price that way.

I have the Asus 7950GT 512 GDDR3, and I love it. Well above 120fps in SH3 with AA and AF cranked all the way up.

The 7950 is a great chipset and runs pretty much everything. SH3 with the 7900 GT series is also a winner in my book (if you want to save a couple bucks). I like EVGA as a company because their warranty support is excellent (in my experience).

That said: If you can hold off for ATI/AMD to put something on the market to compete with nVidia's 8800 GTX/GTS cards, prices on that chipset will come down fast. Then you'll also have a video card which will support DX10 in the future should you migrate to Vista. Who knows when that'll happen though.

Happy Shopping!!!

It looks like we are running the same system:

Mine: 2.4 duo
EVGA 7950GT ko
2 megs 800mhz ram

It runs everthing great.

Don't forget a good power supply. I'm running a 650 watt. If I want to go to SLI latter or add anything, lots of power. I also went with a quite power supply and cpu fan. Its Forest Lawns quite.

Also, I don't plan to go into Vista and DX10 anytime soon, so keep that in mind.

Well I don';t know for sure i think my brother was getting a 550 watt powersupply. Is this enough with the SLI motherboard and everything else needed. He has put a few computers together at his work. And I am learning it from him. It will be my computer though. Do you think i would need the 650 watt or would the 550 watt be sufficeint. Thanks u-50000

If you plan to go SLI (dual video cards) or wait for an 8800 series card then go for a 650 at least. Better to have too much power than 1 watt too little. I have a 550 and am running a pretty lean system (1 vid card) so it's no big deal. But I wish I had gotten a 650 or more for updating hardware in the future. I would have to say a power supply is like the game of love. More is better and it sucks to come up short :nope: . (yes--this is personal experience talking  ).

You've gotten a lot of good advice on this page. Hat's off to the subsim community!!!

If you are going with a DX10 card for DX10.. I would wait... you never want to get something with computers that is totally new or 1st Gen.

But, the 8800 for DX9 games... well it chews them up and spits em out.

I would wait for the Nvidia 8600 series comming out in february/march. That should give you the speed of last generation top cards combined with DX10 at around 200$. Alternatively wait for ATI's RD600 which is highend and probaly expensive.
