Just picking up on jumpy remarks from this thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=104603
Sadly I can see the nhs going the same way as the state pension in the UK; by the time I am old and decrepit and in need of more regular medical care there will be no provision for those past retirement age to afford anything but the most cursory care. It's all very well for people to say 'start saving whilst you're young and get a private pension/healthcare insurance whilst you can' but I don't actually know anyone in my group of friends who can afford to put any money aside for such a thing. Besides, if you invest money in a company or state pension scheme, what's to stop some unscrupulous directors or chancellor of the exchequer coming along and stealing all of it for a new Jaguar car or villa in Spain?

I have lost out on this when my pension went to the dogs when the last company I worked for went bust, I just got no money to save for a pension now with all this tax I'm paying how the hell can I save it if the government keeps taking it off me. And for you younger folk like KAP I was told if you want a real pension you must put away a minimum of £600 a month and that came from an expert, who said not to trust what the government is telling you as they are not taking into account the cost of living.

That's why they are jacking the age up to 70, who the heck wants to work at that age? And when you think about it sometime in the next 10 to 20 years they will abolish the retirement age and it will be work until you drop dead and what's that population control, governments don't like pensioners because they are a burden to them and no longer contributing to the country. This sort of thing makes me angry I am not surprised people want to leave this country, this is one of many faults that all governments will never sort out Labour and the Conservatives are both as bad as each other totally useless, while I am talking about our MP's just look at there fat pensions they get there is no justice anymore for the average working man

Sounds like the Social Security TAX they are taking out of my pay.

It will not be there when I retire.

On the other hand I did not expect to live out my retirement years on SS, so I have been saving a little here and there , investing here and there...

Basically I want a RETIREMENT not just a retirement.
