View Full Version : Dec 23rd fix problems...

Hello my friends,
I have been playing GWX and a little while ago I decided to install the DEc 23rd fix that I kept hearing about, although i was not sure of everything it would do.
Downloaded it and put it in my MODS folder, used JSGME to install it; I start SH3 GWX and it opens normally. Choose to continue my career but as soon as it is done loading (usually agfter about 5mins or so) and I see the words "Not so long ago", i get an error message telling me the program will have to be exited. So I am forced to remove it and continue playing GWX (so far I haven't seen anything that would cause me to believe a fix is needed).
Has this happened to anyone else, and if so what did you do to fix this problem?
Cheers

Did you install the fix while you were in port? Or was it during a patrol?
You need to do mod installs while you are in port and before beginning a new patrol. Or bad things can happen.

good question. I remember reading that but imay indeed have installed it while on patrol. If this is indeed the case, I have since uninstalled it, so am I safe to try again next time in port or do I have to worry about corrupted files?
Thx again.

And you also ABSOLUTELY must to:
- uninstall any mods before installing the patch,
- rollback SH3 Commander
and, as said above, be "in base before mission".

Always remember to make a safe-copy of your career files before installing anything. What I'd do now is:
- copy your career files to a safe place,
- uninstall SH3 completely, as well as SH3 Commander,
- remove your SH3 AND SH3 Commander folders in "My Documents" AND in "Program Files",
- install all anew, i.e.:
SH3 + GWX + any mods you had before (using genereic mods enabler) + SH3 Commander (if you had it before), then try to load your career, move to base, stay there, and then install GWX patch after uninstalling mods and rolling back SH3 Commander.

You must uninstall all MODs via JSGME before installing the Dec23rd MOD. :yep: After you have installed Dec23rd MOD via JSGME then you reinstall the other MODs (but only carry out these operations whilst in port and don't forget to rollback SH3Cmdr first)

i am not running SH3 commander, does this affect any of what you have said? Also, is SH3 commander a must, or am I ok just playing Grey wolves? :hmm:
I guess since we've started something here, should i also run that "tonnage" mod that's out there?
Too many options..I'm so confused. :nope: Brain has just frozen on blue screen of death.
Cheers.

SH3 Commander is not a must, but it is a "must have it". :) I suggest you try it, it's very easy to install and use and gives you some great new opportunities. If you don't like it, it's also extremely easy to uninstall it.
GWX and the NYGM ("tonnage") mod are separate projects that can't be run together unless you have two separate installations of SH3.
You'll go through it, it's not as complicated as it could seem to be. :)

If you decide to use Commander with GWX, then you'll also need some additional cfg files which you can get at the GWX download location here:
http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/
Instructions should be in the manual which you can also get at same location.
Here is the latest release thread for Commander:

Presuming it is the Grey Wolves Expansion and not Grey Wolves your running....I strongly recommend trying SH3Cmdr :yep:
KEEP AWAY from the tonnage mod, it's not compatible with your installation :nope:

:nope:
But you can have it as a second install

I'm a bit confused now, a previous thread said install Dec 23rd after other mods. both ways gives you a warning about modded files being overwritten.

No, _never_, you should always install it _before_ installing anything else, on a clean SH3 + GWX installation. And that's definitely true. :)

Yes you will get warnings whichever way you do it
But the Dec 23rd patch needs to be the first one installed as it forms part of the base installation
The other mods can be re enabled after
Thanks Guys, will I be okay just disabling all through Jsgme then re-enabling in the right order (Dec 23rd first) or will I have to do a full re-install?

No
Disable them all - last to first
Make sure you rollback SH3commander first
Enable Dec 23rd patch then re enable your chosen mods
The idea of JSGME is to allow you to add and remove mods at will without the need to reinstall

ok here goes:
copy my saved games files to another location.
uninstall everything.
reinstall SH3 and patch 1.4
download and install GWX
download and install dec 23rd corrections
download and install SH3 Commander
download and install GWX cfg files for SH3 Commander
download and install JSGME
download and install different mods
does this seem right?
which are the absolute must-have mods that are guaranteed not to cause problems or conflict with any of the above?
I know about the 16km visibility mod but there are so many others out there. I was using Captain America officer Icons, Moosemeasure, Propaganda Posters and gramaphone mods...
I appreciate you guys taking the time to re-explain this all for the thousanth time and i promise you that when I'm back up and running i'll leave you a few sloops and lighboats to sink...;)

Not exactly:

uninstall everything.
remove SH3 and SH3 Commander folders from "My Documents"
reinstall SH3 and patch 1.4
download and install GWX
download and install dec 23rd corrections
download and install JSGME (in fact it's allready there as a part of GWX install, you don't have to do it again)
download and install different mods
download and install SH3 Commander
download and install GWX cfg files for SH3 Commander
start a new career probably, as your previous one possibly won't start with that new installation and if not in port.
I hope I didn't forget anything

If you have SH3Commander now you must rollback before uninstalling it
:hmm: I installed the Dec 23rd patch without uninstalling any mods and it worked just fine. I even installed the "test" being run right now and all is fine, as luck would have it. I've only had one mssg that files were overwriting others but can't remember which one it was, tho it probably was likely the Dec update.
I do agree tho that mods or updates should be installed while "In Base". If not you can corrupt your career. I know this for a fact as I've "screwed the pooch" quite a few times. :damn: ;) But know this too, there are some mods that can be installed while on a patrol that will be just fine, as others have done it safely. Tho which mods they are I don't know. Just be safe and install any of them between patrols. Control that itchy finger that can't wait for a mod install. You'll be glad you did in the long run.
Here's my JSGME. You can see the Dec23rd update was the 8th mod installed. I might get in trouble for showing it but the last installed caused no problems either. Everything is running AOk.
