At what point in the war does the reliability of the magnetic triggers start to go up. I am in July of '41 and still have several duds with the magnetic triggers. I HATE DUD TORPEDOES!
Thanks.

If I remember correctly the problems with the magnetic pistols were solved after the Norwigean campaign. So after mid-1940 you should be Ok

Maybe you're setting them too deep (try for 0.5 to 1m below the ship's draft) or shooting in rough seas? The up and down motion of the boats riding the large waves can really screw with under the keel shots.

You might also want to check your settings to see if you have the 'dud torpedos' box ticked :yep:

Not sure if the game sets a specific date for duds to stop at all
In RL the magnetic trigger played up beyond Norway
There was a lot of speculation as to where the magnetics in the area caused a lot of the prem explosions
I know Donitz wasnt too happy and wanted the English trigger built into the Ge torpedos as was a lot more reliable
I hope now for a pistol of the simplest type, in which the striker will transfer the blow immediately aft and not, as in ours, work from aft forward after a complicated transmission of the striking force. I have therefore demanded, as set out in a T/P to the Torpedo Inspectorate, that the English pistol be copied as quickly as possible. A faultless functioning of this pistol may be expected by reason of its simple construction. We will then abandon magnetic firing which is in any case becoming mythical with the enemy's increased use of magnetic gear. When depth-keeping and impact firing are working properly, we can wait for the development of an effective non-contact firing unit without any questions
