View Full Version : Sank a BB, but no credit to me me
I had the annoying experience with GWX last night of firing 4 fish at one of the 35,000 ton British BBs (Not sure which), watching them hit, then running silent, running deep while the escort DDs threw half the Royals Navy's AS hardware at me, destroying my hydrophone, my deck gun and forward batteries. Flooding pulled us down to 150+ m twice, and my hull was so weak I believed we were going to be a crushed tin can at any moment. But we lost the DDs and slunk away far enough to do our repairs, and I watched in freeview that BB take water and sink over an hour or 2 later. But no one ever said 'She's going down', and when I checked my logs there was no mention of that fabulous kill! Luckily I saved just before I launched those fish - but I'm not looking forward to escaping again. Is this a bug? or had I got so far away from it (probably about 20km) I didn't 'know' it had sunk?
Also I'm in June '41, on my third patrol, and have not seen one, not one, single enemy aircraft. I keep reading about people coming across 7 or so before they've even reached their grid. Whats going on? I feel that when I do finaly catch sight of one I will just sit their and stare with amazment.

Same happened to me, not with a BB though. I sank a whale factory ship, watched it go down but no "She's Going Down" message thus no credit. I think it's a stock SH3 bug that occurs on rare occassions. It was nothing to do with a saved game either as I hadn't done a save for some time.

I'd be curious as to where that happened. I've had 2 C-2's do that to me, where I sank them fair and square, watched them go down, and didn't get the 'Enemy Unit Destroyed' message, or the renown for the kills. Both of those happened (on different missions) in the straight between the Orkneys and the Shetlands.

It's been told many times that this can happen in very heavy seas, when the ship is only hurt by your torpedoes, but the very reason of her sinking can be the huge waves and so on. It's also been told, that:
- a ship can go down without any hit just because of the storm,
- a ship can go down because of Luftwaffe/Kriegsmarine attack, collision, friendly fire (yes! :D), and possibly some other reasons.
Maybe that's it?

Not in my cases. Both times it was night, no Luftwaffe/Kriegsmarine (other than me!), running alone so no collision or friendly fire. Sea wasn't calm, but not a total storm either. Both ships blew up after I hit them, and sank quickly.

What time compression settings do you play at? Airplanes won't spawn correctly at TC settings of 256x and above.
I get constantly harrassed by airplanes in GWX, even in 1939.

That's VERY interesting as it was around here - AM30something?

Oh, ok that might be it ... highest TC to be honest. I get impatient otherwise. Plus I like to try and get the patrol done in an evening. My wife wants me to give her attention aswell! (I mean, really!:shifty: )

Heh...I tend to stick to 128x or 256x. I believe that you have go slow and savor each patrol like a fine wine, instead of going fast chugging it like beer at a keg party.:rotfl:  A patrol usually takes me at least 4 or 5 play sessions. I stay out for about 4 weeks at a time, unless fuel or torpedo problems force me home.
