Hello, I just done only my 3rd patrol and met Pyro Ammunition Freighter.
From between 400-800 yds and angle on bow 50-100, I used up all torpedoes without one hit. and it was too rough for deck gun, I must be doing something wrong but don't know what.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Set torpedo depth to 8 meters, magnetic pistol, try again..:know:

Thanks for the advice, I just need to find out how to set depth and magnetic pistol. My 66 year old brain is getting slow:oops:

Well Bill, check the torp launch icon, TDC, and you see there a gauge with pistol above it, set to M, and left of it you can set the depth.

Also make sure you open the torpedo doors
Q on the keyboard
Torps will run about 3 secs later if not opened so have a chance to miss
Hi Bill,
lock your periscope on target --press F6, this will show you the angle at which the torpedo will hit the target (get it as close to 90 degrees as possible. ) press Q to open torpedo door -- Take aim whatever part of the ship you want to hit --Feur! Los, alles im Wasser!
Welcome aboard and good luck :D

Thanks for your help so far:oops:
I managed to sink a destoyer with 2 torpedoes, my first warship, just got lucky.
Now my next question is how do I actually pick my spot to aim for with torpedo and what is the best range to fire them from.
Thanks again

Torpedos need at least 300m to arm.
Early war best firing distance is for me 500 - 1000m (although today I got 2 torps in a transport at 2000m in a convoy...)
Most important are :
- open tube doors before firing
- always try to hit at nearest to 90° and not too deep (the round parts of the underhull can prevent the torp from exploding - I am an impact fan, don't rely on magnetic before 1941)
- always try to fire with the minimum gyro angle (under the notepad in peri/UZO view) and avoid over 10°
Later in the war, the problem is to manage to come that close...lol I usually change tactic to longer shots with spread salvos, hoping to cripple a couple of ships which will drop behind the convoy and finish them off later.
PS : for aiming, once you have your fire solution ready, you can unlock the scope from the target. Usually when the situation makes it possible, I place my scope so that I get 000° gyro angle and wait for the part of the tgt I want to hit to come to that point. Normally aim for engines/fuel bunkers (under and in front of the smoke stack) but in bad weather the bow can also be interesting to hit as the ship will fill up in front and go straight down.
