Help please. How do I transfer the externaly stored torps into the sub while at sea?

Many thanks.

To transfer external torpedoes you must:
1. Not having silent running
2. Be on the surface
3. Have enough fresh crew on the torpedo compartments

If you do all this then you just drag and drop the external torpedoes to the internal reloads. (the empty spaces where the torpedoes you fired were)

Welcome to SubSim Forums. :)

You must be surfaced - that's the most important thing.

Second - you can't drag them by your mouse directly to the torpedo tube, first you move them to internal storage (drag and drop) and then they can be moved to the tube. The first takes about an hour, the second about 10 minutes.

Third - be sure there is enough crew in proper torpedo compartment. Without crew nothing will happen.

PS And as stated above you cannot be silent running. :)

Surperb! Many thanks for the replies - I clearly was not waiting long enough, or.... I'll try again but I could have sworn I could not 'drag-n-drop'....

For the sake of realism, IIRC transferring torps from upper deck canisters to the forward or aft torpedo rooms was done during daylight hours (one had to be able to see) and at a dead stop.

Transferring torps was a long hard job and became very dangerous due to aricraft as the war progressed. In the later years, the only u-boats allowed to carry torps in the upperdeck canisters were the u-boats traveling to the South Atlantic, Indian ocean and far east.

Oh something else you might want to know. When you drag and drop the torpedo into the internal aread it doesn't vanish from the external one. It gets grey and if you leave your mouse on it for a bit it will give you the ETA of the load (it will tell you how long it will take to be transfered inside the boat). probably that's what you saw and got confused. Also as the time passes you will see the grey external torpedo vanishig slowly.

basically if you follow the procedure the guys described above the external torpedoes will get a bit darker and if you just move your cursor on top of them you should get a "bubble"with the progress...

Put your coursor over the torpedo that is currently being reloaded and after a while you will see, what time it's going to take more to finish the job. If you submerge while reloading external storage torpedoes, the job is interrupted and after that you must start completely anew.

Its important to drag it to the internal RESERVES, not the firing tubes, as nothing will happen otherwise.

And have a officer in the compartment too. That will speed up times for reloads and transfers from external to internal. ;)
