I know the list of the Enemies of Germany from the GWX pulldown. So I'm in November 1939 and I'm not finding much merchant traffic to sink. Should I confine my patrols to the North Sea in the AN sector or are there other areas that are plentiful?

I don't want to get involved with US ships or other countries or neutrals that are not Enemies of Germany.

Rob

EDIT: I've been out there 7 days and only seen and sunk 1 ship.

That list is painfully out of date.

In November 1939 you can go to the AM sectors on the west coast. Plenty of traffic in and out of the northern entrance of the Irish Sea as well in the BF areas in and out of Bristol. This is assuming you are driving a VII and not a II...

The list is out of date???
What is the new list.

I haven't gone to the AM or BF or the entrances to the Irish Sea because I thought I would only be getting US ships.

Where can I find the correct list and dates of Enemies of Germany?

Sail on herr Kaleun. I just returned from the AM's near Ireland, just made it back before Christmas 1939. In fact, the North Sea was quite a bore.

Plenty of English shipping in the AM's in 1939/1940.

I don't think I even met a Yank on the waters! Some Norwegian, Dutch and Swedes in the Channel, but that's it.

There is no new list. What i mean is, with GWX they added more nations, not all of which are represented on that list. Honestly i think most people forgot that pulldown flag list exists.

I'm not sure how the list can be out of date, the information on it hasn't changed much since 1945. In 1939 the best hunting grounds are nort-west and south west of Ireland on the convoi routes to the western british ports. There are also always single merchants along the eastern coast and in the channel between the Hebrides and Scottland. There is some neutral shipping in the North Sea and the English Channel (mostly Scandinavians), on the west coast not so much.

Was typing this when Dulcimus posted above. Yeah, the pull-down list does not have all the nations, but I think the list you get with F1 is more complete.

In the Periscope Screen ,

on the upper left corner , you will be able to pull down a List.

for some good traffic, go to Grid AM near the Irish Iland.
lots of traffic around there , and low Patrol vessels (DDs) in that area,
but as soon as you sunk a ship, stay submerged and get out of there. in some cases a DD comes to race over to the spot where u sunk the ship.

also that spot is a good spot for intercepting convoys.

give it a try and look around for a couple of days in that grid.

I've spent about 5 months total cruising in AM 52 and I've never seen an North American ship there. Only Five o'Clocks and I think also French (but that was rare). Remember to stay in the deep part of the grid - I never let myself to get to close to the shelf, cause there's death awaiting my visit impatiently. :)

Another very interesting spot is CG95 (if I remember correctly), i.e. the grid west of Gibraltar.

Rob if you patrol around the British Isles you will get a lot of ships to kill. I would suggest the following 3 areas:
1. Eastern Coast of Britain (Square AN). You have the benefit of being close to your ports so you don't waste time in taxi. There are also a lot of ports, hence heavy traffic. The down side is that the area is heavily mined so you need to be very careful.
2. Northern England-Scotland. In the area around Scapa Flow you can get a lot of shipping. Be careful though as this area is heavily patroled by DDs.
3. The area around Ireland (Square AM). Stay close to the coast and be really careful of the patrol boats.

In all those areas you will find neutral ships but most of the targets are British.

Good Luck and Good Hunting:up:

My problem is, being the uneducated goof that i am, as i sit there squinting at the flag over a ship, im scratching my head wondering what the hell nation it belongs to. :rotfl:

In the end, i decide to ID hostility by seeing if combat music played or if i have enough time by upping the time compression to see if it was capped at X32. If either case occurs, i just blast him. To heck with IDing. :rotfl:

Let's just say that I want to re-do the flag recognition sheet, where would I look in GWX to find the relevent information to determine who is enemy/neutral/friend?

:hmm:

EDIT - Oh crap. Thanks BBW :damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn::damn:

Actually, I think that's the overlay I got, was from the F1 then selecting Enemies
