View Full Version : U-35 vs. Admiral Graf Spee

On June 17th 1938 during fleet parade, U-35 was run over by "pocket battleship" Admiral Graf Spee.

As you can see, the screws of Graf Spee literally sliced the U-35's hull, one plade at time, luckily the pressure hull wasn't damaged. I can only imagine what that must have felt. :o

Naw, it's a new camo pattern. Fools the Allies into thinking they sank another Uboat and then bingo.... they get it right in the kisser. ;)

Sink it.

It was discouraged by Allied superiors, because it could also be dangerous to the destroyer, but they did it anyway, and it worked. McIntyire, in U-Boat Killer, recommended that they do it at medium speed, as one destroyer at full speed ran completely over the u-boat, ripping off his own propellors and requiring several months of repair time to the bottom of the hull.
