Hello all.

I've been sailing U-Boots for a couple of years now, but have been happy just to lurk here and pick up on your tips and tweaks etc.

Just yesterday however I decided to renistall SH3 on my newish setup (flight sim X has been top of the list for the last couple of months).

Anyway I have a 3 HDD system... c: consists of 2 250GB drives in RAID 0 configuration, and d: is a single 250GB that I keep for FSX only.

I installed SH3 on c: (RAID drive) and it installed nicely and started. Then I tried patching it to 1.4b and the patch couldn't rename any files. I tried changing the read-only properties and every file and folder gives a standard "this file may be being used or the the disk might be full" sort of message (disks far from full and no SH3 files in use). So no SH3 files can be manipulated.

I uninstalled and that took 20 mins!

After a reinstall exactly the same thing occurred, including the painfully slow uninstall.

Test time, I installed SH3 (I have v1.0 DVD as I bought it when it was released) on d: (single HDD) and this time the patch worked a treat! As did the uninstall...

So... How can I install SH3 on my RAID 0 HDD setup?

I've installed GTL on c: and that has Starfarce protection, so I don't think it's that...

I'm running an nVidia A8N-E mobo using nVidia drivers. The system had no trouble installing SH3, patches, Grey Wolves 1.1, SH Commander, Mod Enabler etc before I put in the RAID drives.

I hope someone can help as I need to trawl the Atlantic again...

Welcome aboard!

I donīt know what the problem could be. Simply install it to D, patch it, then copy it to C. As far as I know you need to correct the path to SH3 in the Registry so that SH3 Commander finds the installation. After you copied SH3 to drive C start Regedit (Start/Run/Regedit), go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ubisoft\SILENT HUNTER III and change the path.

errmm a raid 0 setup is when 2 HDD drives work as one basically making everything 2x faster or alot faster if you have the controller on your motherbord or on a pci card thats setup correctly then you should only have one hdd as c as 250gb and the other Hdd, try installing on C: then updating on patch (c: is raid 0 setup) if that wont work check ur raid settings and ur bios settings to make sure something isnt screwed up im running 2 150gb WD raptors 10k rpm in raid 0 and i installed fine and i got 2 300gb in raid 1 so for me its fine

Actually 500GB, heīs using RAID 0. It would be 250GB with RAID 1.

you shold have as much partitions as you want under raid 0.
Don't know where is the problem if you have one instalation of win xp and everything works fine on c hdd and d hdd. Other programs or games working normal on c hdd? Maybe is problem with user rights on c hdd. if u don't install it under admin profile or something like this ....

Thanks fo all the help people.

Yes c: is 2x250GB hdds, all I see in Explorer is c: = 500GB and d: = 250GB.

I've had no difficulty installing any other games or apps on c:, and I do have admin rights when I'm installing.

I may have to have a go at what Gizzmoe suggests and see if that works.

I'll keep you posted, this is a weird one.

Well that didn't work either. It installed nicely onto d: and I copied the whole thing over to c:. As soon as it's there though I can do no more. I can't even open the SH3 folder on c: now as I don't have pemissions apparently, and I can't delete it from c: now either so that's a bunch of HDD space wasted.

And yes, I DO have full Admin rights on this account... SH3 is the only thing I've had problems with on this PC and only since I decided RAID 0 would be nice.

Looks like no subs for me then.:x :x

Thanks anyway. I'll come back when SH4 is out.

Bloody Ubisoft...
