IIRC the intelligence you are given is good for 7 to 14 days
So its best to run SH3 Gen every time you restart the game from your last save

Well my watch officer says ship spotted
Try disabling the sound mod to see if makes a difference

When you start your patrol, you make a save far enough from harbour (100 km to be safe).
You run SH3 Gen once on that save (basically SH3 Gen writes inside the save and makes a backup). The infos on the map are carried from one save to the other, so you don't need it anymore till next patrol start.

PS it depends if you use the mission feature (I do) this is why I only use it once otherwise you get a new mission everytime. If you don't use the mission and want updated info, then may be you can run it several times as BBW said above.

Reposted from a previous post

1. You run SH3 as usual (through SH3Cmd or sh3.exe is the same thing)
2. You start your patrol and about 50-100Km away from harbour you save and exit the mission
3. You press Atl-Tab and go to desctop
4. You fire up SH3Gen and load your save game and generate the report
5. Once you've done that you exit SH3Gen
6. You click on the minimized tab on your taskbar of SH3 and you return to the game
7. You load up your career and your save game and you're ready to go

Usually I do this once per patrol (in the begining) but if you want you can do it as often as you like

If you enable it in SH3 Gen settings, it will assign you a mission which is often more interesting than patrolling empty grids. Like sink a particular ship in a harbour, pick up secret documents from a friendly ship, etc... Fullfilling the mission doesn't bring you anything ingame but adds some fun.
Plse note if you're not satisfied with the proposed mission, instead of clicking OK, you can exit and restart SH3 Gen until you have a mission you find interesting.

These missions do not give you extra renown and you're not obliged to do them. They are there as eye-candy and to make the game more realistic. It's up to you to chose if you want to follow them

I only use SH3 Gen at the start of a patrol. I think it's too much information to be transmitted by morse code, so I consider it to be opening the safe and getting my secret orders after I have put to sea.

You cannot do that. The missions are there for more ralism, not for you to take renown. Use the info from SH3Gen to get some idea where to go and hunt. Nothing else is possible I'm affraid
