Hello Community, tis me again. :D Thought I ought to put the other thread ( birds in the rigging) to bed since you sorted the problem for me :)

Well 'oo's a clever girl then - I am fresh out of Naval Academy and ahead is the big wide briny.
I thought I would have a quick go at the first single mission last night, and it WAS quick. I got a bit fussed when I saw these two enormous battleships coming straight at me, and let go of two torpedoes much too soon - and the terriers guarding them were on me in a trice, and GOT me.

I have looked at the tips on evasion, which are useful, but wonder if there is a way that I can know when they have 'spotted' me, so to speak, so I can start taking that evading action rather than hang around wondering if I will be noticed.

All tips gratefully received :)

Well done, Kaleun!:yep::up::up:
You know you are discovered when you hear the "ping of death".
Tips: Pray to god (If you use GWX).

Well done girl :rotfl:
You can play with the stealth meter on
When it turns away from green there is a chance you MAY be detected
When its red its almost certain you WILL be detected if not already

Never hang around anyway when surrounded by DD's
Silent running will always help - speed 2 kts and under
Dont keep your scope up too long either

Tis a learning curve and you have the luxury of starting again

You did better than I did on my first single mission. I played 'Bismarck', and, assuming I would start away from the action the first thing I did was surface right next to Rodney!

Of course it was also the last thing I did...:dead:

One good tip is when you hear their screws suddenly accelerate, and/or they make an abrupt course change your direction.

p.s. And welcome aboard! :)

If your sonar man is any good, he will say "closing" and he will also say closing slow, usually meaning you are not detected, medium speed means the DD are searching and know you are around. If the sonar man says "closing fast" you have been tagged so make way for depth and silent running!

Welcome on board:up:

The only tip I can give you is to be patient. Patient and cautious. Try to plan ahead in your attacks and try to ambush the enemy whenever you can. Use commando tactics, hit and run (actually dive deep but you get the meaning) and pray that the DDs will not find you. Keep experimenting and you will discover the tactics that work better for you. And of course if you have any problems we're here for you;) :D

aww shucks, thank you for all the tips and encouragement. I suppose I have been doing a silly thing really because I am tempted to come up to the surface as an 'invisible watcher' in freeview ( is it?) just to see what is going on, and up there, separated from the sub, you can't hear the pings... I wondered if the pings were MY pings bouncing off them, like with computers, but seems not, t'other way around... oh dear. A lot to learn, but, I shall be back there in a bit to have another go :)

thank you Cap'n Munson, and Paaj, I am sure I can't imagine what you mean!!
 ( sniff).

I made a bit of a mess of it tonight ( first single mission) - but each time I learn a bit more how to do things properly. I had a pack of destroyers hunting for me tonight, but they didn't 'get' me. Trouble was, I didn't get my target either. Coo, keeps you on yer toes don't it. Great fun, even when I hear them passing overhead and am waiting for it...bbrrr!

Need to bone up on the maps and understand what I am looking at when all I have is half a dozen black lines with no identities when I am submerged. That is my next job.. :D

night-night now, girl has to get her kip

Congratahoochies on finishing the Academy!

The moment you launch torpedoes, consider you've been detected--dive and go quiet. Make small rudder changes, keep your speed at no more than 3 knots unless depth charges been dumpred on top of you. Sneak away. Happy sailing and best of luck. :D
