Whats the difference between the GWX and NYGM mods? I want to mod my install, just want to know which one would make the most of my time on the game. Whats your preference?

Mate you cannot imagine how many times this question has been put to this forum. in any case to answer your question: Both mods are great in their own right. NYGM focuses more on realism (their own version at least) and GWX focuses more on realism (their own version as well) and on new graphics, operation theaters, new ships etc. In my opinion you should do a double installation and try them both. See which one is closer to your style of play and stick with it. My vote is cast on GWX but that's just me.

GWX gives you more for your money. You need to know if you want more or not, decide that for yourself.

Then how do you decide which one to play when... toss a coin? :hmm:

After trying both, I'd go with GWX. I love all the new flotillas and ships. If you're on dial-up prepare for a looonng download tho. ;)

Since our mate has got it's issue solved, and me not wanting to open a new thread, I'll ask a question here. I started a campaign in Penang...but I could not figure out which grid is Afrika0 :shifty:. I was instead very happy to see the lighter colour of the Indian Ocean, so I took my crew to a chaotic pleasure cruise :))))

I use them in a different manner. NYGM is my "hardcore" game in the Atlantic, with 100% real, fatigue on and manual navigation.
I use GWX for "exotic" and more "relax" careers - fatigue turned off, normal GPS navigation, external cams for the eye candy - in places not implemented in NYGM . I started a Med career as the Med operations have been a lot more scripted in GWX. Will also probably have a look at the Black Sea and Far East operations later.

PS : after first testing, the main reasons why I keep on using NYGM as "central" game are :
- I don't have to use renown to "buy" equipment, never liked this feature.
- I don't have the minor but annoying deck "moving point of view" bug. I know I just have to go to UZO and back to realign, but I live better without having to do it.

I just a figure of speech... they're both free, so you get very good value for your money. With GWX you get more for nothing.

O.Afrika is Ostafrika (East Africa). All these Indian ocean patrol regions are on the game map. They are listed in the manual, but comparing the corresponding abbreviationand map name you should be able to find your patrol area. If the German is too much for you, you can install the english regions map option with JSGME.
Due to limitations in the game, these patrol areas do not give renown.

Both NYGM and GWX are free so there's no harm in trying both....my preference is GWX

Thank you Boris. The renown does not count very much anyway. I know that some of you will consider me a traitor somehow, but I allways cheat regarding the renown. I edit the cfg for my patrols, and when I start a campaign, after the first mission I have all the renown I need. I do this mainly because I like to think that if a new technology was available, then of course Bdu would have done everything possible to deploy it to as many submarines as possible...

Anywayz....don't judge me too hard please.

How you play the game is up to you mate. The important thing is to have fun. If by editing the cfg files you get the experience you want from the game, who are we to judge? Keep playing, keep having fun and keep sinking;) :D :D
