View Full Version : Nominate the Subsim Skipper of the month

Onkel Neal
01-17-07, 01:19 PM
We have so many great people here, I am going to have a Subsim Skipper of the month. Here's how it works:

Rules

1. You cannot nominate yourself.
2. You must have logged 50 or more posts to nominate someone. (For obvious reasons).
3. One nomination per person, please.
4. Once posted, you cannot change your nominee. Don't edit your nomination post.
5. You can and should shamelessly petition their case here, in this thread.

This will be partly a popularity contest, but also a reward for someone you think has been helpful, friendly, interesting, and overall a good Subsim guy.

Our judges will select the nominees with the best argued cases and run a poll for you to vote on the finalists. The winning Subsim Skipper of the month will receive a Rigged for Dive t-shirt and a copy of the Subsim book.

thanks
Neal

Question: Does it apply to whole the forums or just to SH3 one? I personally fell I couldn't vote for anyone, cause I'm sticked to this subforum and hardly ever have a look at others...

I would like to nominate danlisa. Without him i wouldnt have known anything about skinning & modding. And he is also extremly helpfull to all the newbies that joins subsim. All over, a great guy!

Edit; Firewall, i apperciate your nice thoughts, mate. Those kind words really warmes!:oops:
But i think there are a people in here who deserves this more than me, truly (like Sailor Steve, danlisa, Stabiz, mrchris, bigboywooly, Kpt.Lehmann and all the rest!)

I vote for Sailor Steve. Not only is he already a member for many years, there is a certain continuity in his behaviour. He´s always trying to be helpful, he´s friendly and it´s very obvious that he cares much about this community. Even now that he is going through difficult times he´s here regularly, for me that´s a sign of devotion. He´s a real asset to our community.

Not only does he run the place (and that takes a lot of hours to do i bet) but he allso works "behind the curtain" to enhance our enjoyment in the future.

Always a polite answer from him and he comes up with the info we all want from time to time.

Thanks for your effort Neal

I nominate Seth.
I feel he's a worthy canidate as he alway's first to welcome a newbie
and help them with whatever their question is. And if he doesn't have
the right answer he refer's them to someone that doe's. He away's put's
a positive spin on everthing and will join in with a laugh but, never at
somebody else's expense. He share's the mod skins he does then gives credit to all that helped him get it out to us. He will also take the time to pm aperson that needs help so it doesn't tie up the thread and offers to
help them step by step to acomplish what their not smart enough to do
on their own and ashure's them that their not dumb and everyone needs
help to learn something new. He's alway's willing to chip in any way he can when a members in need whether it's "knowledge, financial or moral
support.

These in my opinion are the qualities of a Skipper

danlisa

http://www.alexanderpringwilson.org/images/emoticons/blush.gif Erm, thanks Seth.

My vote - this is really hard Neal, as you say there are so many members here who are helpful, friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable as well as those who, in the face of adversity have managed to overcome many obstacles and achieve something that benefits the entire community.
It is also very hard to encompass the whole of Subsim in my decision so I'll stick with what I know, SH3.

My vote goes to someone who is always helpful, cheerful, knowledgeable and has been a 'one man army' (as someone put it;) ) in the last month or so following the release of GWX.

Drumroll please & take a bow.......................bigboywooly

I nominate Sea Queen.

After my "Last chance at my skipper stripes" thread, in which I stated I would all but quit on DW if I didnt come to understand it better, I got help from lots of people who answered lots of my questions. Most notably was Sea Queen, who took the time to answer my questions at length and make suggestions that helped me make vast strides in my competancy as a skipper. I now utilize the systems of my Seawolf with knowledge of what the hell they are doing.

Seriously, my game has come a long way thanks to she and this communtiy. Im even designing campiagns now!

Honorable mention to Subguru, who is always very helpful and giving of his time. I think Sea Queen just might have a little more time on his hands than bill!

I vote for Torplexed

I wanted to nominate Red Shoes, but I guess she took off …

It was a close call between her and Torplexed …

Can you vote for more than one?

Can you cheer on your favorite if someone else votes for them too?

I voted for Torplexed:

Because he’s a real sub sim sailor. I respect him for his humor which you need
to get through a 89 day patrol at sea.

He would have been a good officer on any real submarine in any war, plus he’s
funny as all get out and if he doesn’t win this month he will probably win in another one.

He’s the funniest man (on paper) I’ve ever met.

This is all I could get off of his personal page
Join date: 12-25-2001

Seattle in the Great Nortwest

Would you please say a few words for us Torplexed …

Silence …

Well, I’m sure he will be along with a cartoon for us soon and very soon.

The winner should get a trophy with this inscription:

"Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change
the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
Margaret Mead

I vote this quote should be on the trophy.
There is a trophy, right?

What a great idea Neal
Well now - who to nominate :hmm:
Only one vote too thats a toughie

:damn: harder than I thought

Ok I will give my vote to Anvart
Apart from some great ship additions in the way of the lit merchants he has always been most helpfull to me and many others in many ways
Whether helping out with some of the harder parts to modding or creating fixs for problems - he has been there
Sometimes the language barrier gets in the way of expressing his views but never stops him from replying or helping

because he has been a navy rating he has been there done that and come out the other side, (as quite a few have) but also cause he has had a rough time of recent and he has the will power to make a go of anything no matter what life throws at the guy.

Well deserved, for all of the above stated reasons.

Well, since I can't nominate myself for two obvious reasons (firstly, I'm not allowed to, and secondly I'm a jerk:lol:) then I guess my vote goes for.....Stabiz this time. Why? well, he seems clearminded and thoughtful and (above all) nice.
oh, and he DID take part of the GWX beta-testing right? I mean, I supposed that it helped in making the mod what it is, so cheers Stabiz! (and the rest):()1:

His work on the GW and GWX mods. The greatest in history in my opionion. So take a bow.

01-17-07, 05:57 PM
There are these guys like Luftwolf or Bill Nichols (SubGuru) .. but they are plainly beyond such ranks .. their help to community is immeasurable, and far beyond 'month' scope.

So for this month, I nominate vote for CptSimFreak for bringing the idea of 'silly comic' thread, and for starting it in pretty nice way. That really revived the thread.

Albrecht Von Hesse
01-17-07, 06:05 PM
Errrrr . . . . tis a very difficult choice. I can easily think of 20 that I consider worthy of the nomination. So I'm glad this is 'of the month', and not a one-shot deal.

Having said that, my vote (this month) goes to Kpt Lehmann. Not just for being the central focus behind GWX, but for being so incredibly patient (for the most part :p ) surrounded by anxiously-awaiting Kaleuns eager for the release of GWX.

LuftWolf
01-17-07, 06:11 PM
SeaQueen deserves recognition of her contributions to Subsim, because of her knowledge, thoroughness, patience, fairness, and overall consistent commitment to this place.

So, SeaQueen gets my vote for sure.

Cheers,
David

So for this month, I nominate vote for CptSimFreak for bringing the idea of 'silly comic' thread, and for starting it in pretty nice way. That really revived the thread.

I second that one. The silly comic thread is fun because it illuminates the silly goofs we've all made playing the game. Naval simulations can be terribly daunting to learn to play and it's important that people who are new to the hobby not feel like they're surrounded by people who were born knowing everything and they're they only dummy. The truth is, we all wander around the simulated ocean dazed and confused, hoping we don't bump into each other or any random rock. It's important to laugh at ourselves.

I have met this "SailorSteve" and he's a great guy:up: . During the Subsim conference in Salt Lake City, we discussed: the latest SHIII stuff, Dreadnoughts, American Civil War, hot subsim gossip:cool: , and other topics that can't be discussed in the forums:hmm:  . So I vote for Steve:rock: .

To clarify, this is the thread for nominations. If someone has nominated Bob Subguy, and you want to vote for him, hang loose, I will post the voting Poll in a couple days. If you know someone you want to nominate, post his or her name here and back it up with why he should be SSOM.

Since Neal is not participating I'll vote for Sailor Steve, for all the reasons mentioned above by my fellow subsimmers. When I was a simple curious bilge rat he would let me share his thoughts about many subjects and reveal part of his private life and personality in postings and p.m.'s. And still, whenever I see one of his postings, I read it. On average very worthwhile reading. A real role model for new forum members and a guy who deserves respect.

He is always there to give you a helping hand and have a laugh in the process.
Oh and he puts up with me continuely trying to get him out to play MP.

All mentioned, and those not mentioned, deserve something extra special and long lasting.... except me of course. That goes for all the modders, makers of all the extra programs, and anything else that's made SHIII what it is over the stock sim. They ALL deserve our thanks and appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Without them we'd all be left with a sim sitting on the shelf collecting dust.

Since this is the first "skipper of the month" or nomiation, i find myself looking at Sh3, from past to present, andthinking in terms of contributions that became the foundation for just about everything that followed it.

Before any Grey Wolves or NYGM mod packages there was Unified Campaign Vanilla, which, in essense was Harbor traffic 1.48 i beleive.

Obviously before that there was Harbor traffic in it's many forms, (before that was Improved convoys)

So all told, the foundation for all the campaign work, looking at the core package, if we were to trace the lineage of the core content of supermods back, to one singular source, the wellspring from which everything followed that has been here all along...

That source, is...

It was a joke. There have been meetings in London and Houston and the first one was I think in Amsterdam, but I wasn't around then.

Last summer nikimcbee came to Utah for personal reasons. We arranged by PM and e-mail to get together and ended up spending a fun afternoon eating and talking.
