Beware of the GWX armed tug --the bastard has a grat big gun on the bow and 4 20mm oerlikons. Those gunners are better than mine. :nope: :dead:

T thought I'd take him out with the deck gun and flack gun. Had to dive as I began to lose crew. He's also not too bad at depth charging. But I think I gave him the slip.

I just discovered that in another thread some months ago... I didnt know that either before i suddely stumbled over it! :yep:
You have to be at the surface to do that, btw. (Duhhh...Like it was possible to do it under water...:p)

Unless u stuff the dead bodies in the torp tubes when u ran out of torps or unload them first underwater.

But if you bury them they will not be recorded (reported) as KIA in your mission/career files any more. It's better to take them home. There is a discussion about this a few threads below.

Thanks, Seth.
I see from the pinging thread, people are in trouble elswhere. This Gwx feels real. The only thing I didn't do was haul the bodies inside.

It does not matter if you bury them at sea or take them home there dead when you return to base they are classed as dead anyhow.

Kind of morbid to think you're hauling dead bodies all around the Atlantic. :dead:

The ceremony was delayed by the intercept of a small motor vessel, which the gun crew could not hit. After the sinking of the MV, At 2202 hrs. 3 June 1940, Oberfanrich z.S. Behrnard Steihauser and Bootsman Otto Meier were buried at sea with full honors and a three gun salute.

Exactly!

Stuff the bodies in the tubes with a bunch oil and junk and fire them off to convince attackers they've got you!:yep: Callous? Depends on your view of death I guess but if it can save the life of everyone else in the boat then well worth it IMO.

Come on devs! I want to use dead sailors as decoys in SH4!;)

If you're desperate enough to shoot a dead comrade out of a tube, do you really want to leave silent running long enough to unload a tube to stuff him into?

Although, I suppose if you have an empty tube anyway...

I dunno. Seems like a dangerous use of compressed air you might desperately need later, when your boat's spiraling towards the bottom of the High Atlantic.

Have a look at this thread, guys, it's about burying bodies at sea and some bugs related to this:

Actually, I see it as a feature. I bury my dead crewmen at sea and swear the rest of the crew to secrecy, so my record stays clean.

Seaman Johnson? Why, he never reported for duty sir. He must have deserted. Certainly he wasn't lost on patrol due to my incompetence at trying to duke it out on the surface with that destroyer, or when we failed to crash dive and were mercilessly strafed by Hurricanes. No sir.

All those holes in the conning tower and deck, sir? Well, you see there was this giant octupus...

Now, if ya Have no dead crew members, and the

let the Capt. have use of his service revolver and
make some to use as decoys to save the rest !!!...

Yes it is morbid but my little virtual crew has a virtual family that live on a game called THE SIMS. Even though the stench is overbearing, I take them home for THE SIMS to bury him:shifty:

Okay its quite ironic you got dead crew they know they might not come back, they are all seafarers perhaps they want to be buried at sea. Okay for those who want to take there dead back to base, what's going to happen when you lot get blown clean out of the water who going to bury you?nobody because you are going back to 39 or start over again. If you dead crew I would respect them and bury them at sea rather than bring them back, what would happen if you never made it?eh

Yep, if your crew is marked all in red and in there profile you see a black cross it's time to ditch them in to the sea as you don't want them stinking up the boat. If you only see a red border around them and in there profile is a red cross it's time for your medic to swing in to action and fix them up.

Well that would have to be a last resort of course...
"None of us want to die Johnson but you did draw the short straw so take it like a man!":p

As an alternative perhaps the devs also need to allow the player to elect to lose one torpedo and have that tube stocked and ready with corpses fresh from the morgue.:88)

As I learned today, a Polish First Officer of a Russian submarine, Konstanty "Macaj" Matyjewicz-Maciejewicz, "Captain of the Captains" as he was used to be called, had a patrol on June 8th 1917. They were practising crash diving and the ship refused to surface after submerging and fell down to 27 metres to sit on the sea floor. After some time without hope for any help from outside Konstanty Matyjewicz-Maciejewicz decided to try to rescue the crew. And he did rescue himself and 5 crew members as well, by...

...shooting them out from the torpedo tubes using compressed air.

I do not know if they were all the crew, possibly not, and don't know what happened to the rest. I'll have a look at some sources. I only know that the ship was surfaced, repaired and then the hero became its captain till the end of WWI.

Has anyone of you heard about the man and his achievement?

Here you got a Wiki article (only Polish version): http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konstanty_Matyjewicz-Maciejewicz

For your info: After the ceremonial burial at sea, U-49 limped back to Kiel. The patrol records now show two dead crew. Hull integrity was revealed to be at 47%. Fixed and with a new First Watch Officer and a PO, the U-49 is out on patrol again.
