I started a new career after the U-65 was lost on its 5th patrol. So, its April 1940 and I leave Wilhelmshaven tp patrol AN22. after arriving I get a contact report of a stationary taskforce near Trodhiem, Norway. I cruise up for alook and find a task force consisting of 3 DD's, 3 troopships, and a Fiji light cruiser all anchored nice and pretty in a fjord. So, I begin my stalk, since its late evening....I put the three DD's down, then the Fiji. I then start working my way into postion to attack the troopships when I hear the sound of aircraft....so I use the free camera to look around and its a dive bombing attack by Stuka's. They manage to sink 2 of the troopships before dark set in, and stopped the attack. I then sank the other one, the next morning Me-109's so up to finish the job, but didn't find any targets left. One more reason GWX is so addictive. I can't stop playing this game, you never know what you are going to encounter or be witness to.

Did the Stuka's engage their sirens?
Normally, it happened automatically during a bombing-dive.

I took out the same task force! I bagged the crusier and destroyers, but the bombers took out the transports before I got there

I saw the Luftwaffe a couple of times outside Norway, where they come to bomb the ships I'm trying to sink. You cannot imagine how many times I thought of shooting those bloody planes with the flak guns for stealing the juicy tanker away from me:nope: :nope:

Cool pics. I'd love to see some ME-109s scramble into action when I'm plodding thru Sunderland Alley. It's a shame you can't request aircover. Too ahistorical.

Herman's flyboys just spoiled my test... I was near Malta and found a couple merchants at daybreak with a Black Swan as escort. I knew from my sonarman there was also a 2 DD patrol not far away.
As I wanted to make a test about evasion from DD attacks, I sent a torpedo in one of the merchants to draw some attention. 10 minutes later I had all 3 DDs around me, was going 2 knts 120m deep. As this was intended as a test to see how GWX DDs react to various situations, and how good I was at escaping the 3 DDs, I used the external camera to have a general look at the situation.
Then suddenly the DDs start shooting in the sky... A flight of Stukas swoop down all sirens screaming on "my" test DDS, sink one, damage a second and drive crazy the third which starts runnig around at max speed.
No need to say they lost me... Will have to wait for another test...

LOL that happened to me too. Lovely huge Norwegian freighter, 7,000 tons, a juicy prize for my little U-4 (Type IIA). Literally seconds before I was due to fire, two Stukas show up and bomb the crap out of my prize.

And I just know that later, when I'm being pounded by 4 destroyers, the Luftwaffe will be nowhere in sight....

It's a sight I used to enjoy!
But when flying for the Ruskies, in an Il2-Sturmovic, haha!
Those Bf's were an easy prey for my double 20mm-cannons.

Except they fly and climb a lot faster. Would prefer being in the 109 any day ...:D

:hmm:True...

Unless you're a Sturmo-pilot.:sunny:

Would love to take my uboat to Murmansk, and witness a dogfight between Il2's and 109's...but the Il2 isn't in this sim, so that won't happen (for now?).
Corsair, in Il2-ForgottenBattles, I've learned to fight these enemies, and loved it!
And it isn't a-historical at all...the Il2 was known to be able to stand it's own in dogfights (allthough it was a ground-attack aircraft), and numorous engagements are recorded.

The trick is to try to make the 109 starting a turn-fight with you.
If he's experienced enough, he will boom&zoom you instead...but now my (perfectly camouflaged) Il2 dives to 10m altitude, and starts speeding away (it's much faster than you'd expect - 420 at sea-level, 440kmh at 2500m), giving my gunner the best firing-solution, while protecting my belly. I can only hope to escape undamaged, though...so I put my hopes on my armour, my camo, and my gunner.
But if the 109 starts to turn-fight me, he's doomed for sure.
The Il2 has a strong engine, and big wings...it will stay airborne at very low speeds.
The 109 will overshoot fast, and will offer a perfect firing-solution to my twin 23mm cannons...or rockets!
And if I use my flaps wise, then I'm even able to out-turn him!

It's more than 5 years ago, since I joined my dedicated Il2-squad (the background of our homepage is the blueprint of it LOL), and I really can say that I would prefer a 109 as enemy over a FW190 any day...:D
If I see a FW, I just try to run and hide...:nope:

But still, you're talking to a Sturmovic-ace...:cool::oops:

I don't like flying lorries :D, and the 109 is my favourite plane (I don't like so much the FW limited forward view). Any 109 driver knows the most stupid thing is to get in a turning fight and that if you use the vertical no russian plane can follow you until late in the war. So it's no turning and high yoyos instead.
But I agree the IL2 is a nice lorry and a flying tank...;) I often saw some fly back to base with parts missing.

Its NOT fair!. Our crew recently in Salamis, send over to Hermann some great Greek wines, and he still refuses to send over his men.

Never saw a plane, just RAF, but no ME's.. nothing..keine!:damn:

Did he forgot the U48?
