Forgot to post this last night - but I decided to start a late war patrol just to see what the AI is like in terms of detection etc.
So, picking late 1944 I was assigned to Flemsburg. As I was leaving port behind the pilot ship I was plotting in an exit course (at this time at ahead slow) when I suddenly heard the sound of AAA outside.
Jumping to the bridge I watched as a squadron of B24's came across the docks on an attack run. My flak gunner opened fire - as did everything else in the harbour!
I took over one of the flaks and hit a B24 with the quad and watched as he caught fire and dived into the sea. I only got one - but with the amount of lead going into the sky I saw two others drop as well.
VERY atmospheric I can tell you!
Excellent work to whoever put that into GWX. Never seen an air-raid before in SH3!
I then went to external camera and had a pan around the docks and saw two ships were on fire - one listing badly to port!
I must say it was a nice addition - just a shame I didn't think to capture any screenshots :damn: (too tied up with shooting at planes!)

Hi, WAC also has air-raids in the latter part of the War but unfortunately my Graphics Card couldn't handle all the activity. Haven't got very far with GWX yet [1940].
Nice. I still have never seen an air raid.

Nice. I still have never seen an air raid.
You're lucky. When you see one you will be looking for cover;) :yep: :yep: :know:

I don't normally go for late war patrols, but on one occasion I had the VIIC/41 (June '44) out of St Nazaire - only to discover when leaving the pens a B-24 raid was in progress - very atmospheric as the type 34 destroyers were going for it throwing loads of lead into the sky - I ordered my flak crew up to add to the chaos:D

Witnessed a nice air attack from our side yesterday. While attacking a group of troop ships and a light cruiser heading towards Namsos (Norway) it suddenly got loud upstairs after I sent 2 fish into a transport. I immediately thought, that I had been spotted because my tower was visible, or something, and started diving. Had the external camera on and cheated and took a peek outside, just to see what the commotion was all about, and saw a Stuka falling out of the sky into the sea. One of the DDs was already ablaze and a second one as well as the remaining troop ships were taking a pounding by the Stukas. Pretty bad for me, because I had managed to damage one of them with my aft torpedo, and now it was being sunk by the Stukas :( In any case the show was worth losing the 7000 odd tons of tonnage to a Stuka pilot. In addition I was able to slip away easily and when the Stukas were gone had a blast finishing off the Fiji cruiser while the DDs were sitting in the water waiting for me to reappear. I circumnavigated them on silent running. Took me hours and my crew almost asphyxiated, but in the end I got the cruiser.

Friendly air attacks can be cool
While testing ship placements in Dover while GWX under construction I saw a nice port raid by JU88's
Using the ext cam checking each ship out
While I was looking at a Hospital ship it suddenly caught fire
Hmmm not good methinks
Next unit in view was a JU88
So I stayed with those and watched them bomb away
Also saw a Stuka raid on a taskforce I sent a contact report on
Took the DD's mind off me for a bit
3 times they came back the Stukas - And didnt hit a single ship

I remember visiting Bristol a few times when playing with IUB and being there while the Luftwaffe's JU88's were attacking - made for some good screenshots, plus they were able to destroy a few ships while I was making torpedo attacks within the harbour, thankfully they were not attacking my targets - not bad air support either as the lone patrolling destroyer was totally absorbed with shooting down the marauding aircraft, which enabled me to exit the area very quickly:)
