Hi Guys,
I am very lucky. Still alive after 15 patrols. (july 1942)
The last one i got only 1 destroyer.
Met 2 cargoes but there were 3 destroyers nearby who began chasing me
but i did escape without damage.
Got already a 100k mission in this campaign. I have had the luck that
i met several convoys without protection and with a wolfpack. So that
was turkeyshooting for me.
The mission before i destroyed a small cruiser.
But the hairraising actions with destroyers what i have read on this forum i
didn`t still get.
lets see if you're still lucky in 1945 when the DD's are a real pain in the a$$:rotfl:

Morts, that military hardware is not free, not to mention all the corpses on the boat:cry: . %&*#@* in the port so I can &%@#_*&^ when you get here:nope:
I cannot say much, my boat gets blasted on every patrol:dead:

So far I managed to survive 14 patrols (started in '39 and I'm now end of june '41). Until now the escorts are dumb as hell, there wasn't a single moment were I thought I was in trouble. I'm beginning to think that there must be something wrong with the AI sensors.:nope:
anyone got to 43 yet in gwx... hows the air cover?

jus finished 20th patrol in my IXB transferred to lorient in 18th patrol started beginning of war and with my trusty IXB , 16/20 patrols i sunk over 70, 000 GRT 4/20 ive sunk a BB in each and 18/20 patrols ive sunk over 50,000 GRT , 2/20 patrols i was caught during convoy attacks and was heavily DC'ed and both patrols were 5.5 and 7.8 % hull integrity with heavy damage and on 1 patrol all 4 torpedo tubes were destoryed and tube 5 was destroyed along with my periscopes and my flak and deck guns no fatalities or wounded :rock:

A have an old IX campaign from GW1.1 that took me from Bergen, around the British isles via Scapa - Ireland and back to Brest when I reloaded it in GWX. That's november 1943. 150 km out of Bergen I was jumped by two fighters for the first time...
Your snorkel is your friend, the skies, day and night are somewhat more crowded... No more time compression than 128 max.
Unfortunately my flotilla is the 10th, my mission is to sail to Penang. Well, cool! However, I can't upgrade at any port for a IXD2..:( Must be a savegame problem, no biggie though.

Its hellish.
I dont think GWX is too difficult in the early years, but something really scary happens in 43. I had done my patrols for years, a couple of close calls, but noting major, but then 1943 came around, and suddenly I lost my boat three times in a row, at pretty much the same spot, west of the Bay of Biscay. :arrgh!:
Of course, something even worse happened after that, I reinstalled Windows without backing up my carreer folder in "My documents", so now I`m in 1940 with no Biscay Cross, no radar, and certainly no quad flak. :damn:

U-389, 1st (and last) patrol:September 1943: 31 air attacks within 11 nights. 31st attack sunk me. :dead:
U-972, 1st patrol: December 1943: 25 air atttacks within 9 nights. survived.
U-972, 2nd patrol: Februrary 1944: 9 air attacks within 7 nights. survived so far.
Yes, I stay submerged during daytime - no chance otherwise.
And no, I don't have a schnorchel...too expensive.
Radar detectors (NAXOS, METOX) are your best friends. Always dive if you have a warning and stay submerged for at least 30 minutes. Always!
Cheers,

I'm just on a trip to Norway to help with "Weserübung" (April 1940). Got myself a Fiji-class cruiser and a troop ship near Namsos. Had a little help from the Luftwaffe though how created a nice diversion for me :). That's my 7th patrol.

Hawk! 4 patrols...you go! I'm proud of you! See? It's better when you just stay in your bunk, isn't it?:smug:
I'm on GWX #20. July, 1941. BdU's got me mid-atlantic (Freetown). Nothing except a whole lot of water! (I'm out damn near a month and have bagged one (1) large cargo for about 11K. Almost went after three neutral fat-assed tankers out of boredom. I've seen French shipping all over the place...but they're neutral now...
In a Type VII...is the guy nuts? Does he think I've nothing but GOBS of fuel???

Does not matter Kaleum your antenna is breaching and has done so since we submerged in our own harbor. The ruse is up!

I'm about to start patrol 13, in my best campaign ever! This far I have sunk:
38 merchants
2 warships (both DD)
4 aircraft (3 Swordfish, 1 Avro Anson MkI Reconnaissance Aircraft)
a total tonnage of: 183500
No crewmen lost. Worst hull-damage: 46.28% (first patrol:rotfl: )
This career started on September 1st, 1939, and I ma now at december 4th, 1940.
Wish me luck lads! I'm gonna need it soon!
oh yeah, and please don't make any anti-Semitism jokes here. That's just not right. Cheers.

I have started my second career, since my first one ended during the 5th patrol with the sinking of the U-65. I had 111,000 combined tons from my first 4 patrols.
Now, I am in the middle of patrol #1 in U-94 and have 26,580 tons (3 DD's, 1 Light Cruiser, 1 Troopship).
I am now playing if I get sunk I have to start a new career, instead of stopping and reloading a saved game. Playing this way makes you alot more careful.
