View Full Version : The Captains bunk?

Well, the gramophone thread grew a life of it's own, ;) but now my next brain tickler. Anyone have clue what the actual point of the Captains bed is?

To rest I think. :)

And to invite the ladies if there were some on any sunk merchant ship you have taken the rescuees from. Isn't every Kriegsmarine officer a gentleman? (in a Germanic style, of course, not English-Schmienglisch! ;) ).

In Polish we have a joke about officer's bed (a word-play I'll try to translate):
— What does an officer have under his bed?
— An officer has to clean up under his bed, sir!

And another one, impossible to translate, but I'll try to explain… It's just so funny:
— An officer looks under his bed in the morning and what does he see?
— His 'morning shoes', sir! [those you put on when awaken and going to bath or so.]
But the second sentence means literally also:
— His shoes wounded, sir!

:)

Actually under the bed is an inflatable datable with all holes in right places. Now we know why we have compressed air in the uboat. She gets passed around from time to time.:o

I suppose we could put some frilly ribbons on the dive planes as well, kind of spruce up the boat a bit. Hmm....that might fox the English radar come to think of it.

Well, we all know what the pole is the 1st officer is always hanging on too. The boys do some pole dancing for dollars every now and then. The disco ball really adds atmosphere.

Thats fine if there is less because I do not spend any time there at all!

Someone was working on some new textures for this room. I had seen a few shots but that was a while ago. None since!

Yeah first time I went to the captains cabin I tried to click on the book that's stored on the cupboard door, thought it might be the KTB, guess it was planned as the arrow turns red, but nothing happens when you click on it.

I believe there is a lot of things that were not finished in the game. From what I understand there are a lot of voice files not used:cry:

If you do a shift + F2 you can kind of look inside that cabinet and see there are books inside, but no way to get at them.

I don't think the bed is stupid. What else should be there, a tethered goat? I can imagine the collective scream from bubbleheads (myself included) if a bed wasn't modeled there.

A bed is what was there on the real uboats so it's fine by me.:yep:

I believe the interior free look command is shift+F12 (maybe ctrl+F12? someone will correct me, I'm sure). Just don't try going too far into the aft or fore of your boat or you'll crash the game.

Yep, there's also a safe in there.

I think the bed could have been great for a "player fatigue" part of the game. The longer a player continues without "sleeping" the more delayed responses to his orders would be etc. The player can nap on the bed and time would whip by really quickly (way faster than maximum TC) but if some kind of event or sighting occurs it "wakes" the player and gives a 10-20 second delay before you can command a response. Or maybe the player could set responses to certain events with his officiers on watch so they take automatic action. The better the officiers, the better and faster their responses. Leave the boat in the hands of the midshipman while you nap in enemy waters and you wake up dead.:)

The possibilities are endless; hell you can even have weird dreaming images that float across the screen while you nap - ships going down, depth charge attacks and girls you "met" in the Reeperbahn.:88)

Next Sonar mans entry, Week 4, the captain keeps dropping things on the floor and asking me to bend over and pick them up. I find this very odd as he always says, 'Oh boy" when I retrieve whatever he has dropped.:o

Before GWX it was the only place other than the map at high TC where I could clearly hear the Grammophone. GWX seems to have made the diesels a bit quieter so I don't need to go there anymore.

Would have been nice to see some of the old SH1 features like calendar with moonphases, sunrise, sunset times etc and the log. Couldn't have been that much more work. Cest la Guerre!

No kidding.
This is really a shame. The captain's cabin needs a calander, a clicky for a typeable log, and clickys for charts, ID books, etc.
The cabin needs to be a place that has a point, besides putting yourself there while using the head in r/l.
