Hi all,

I've been experiencing a VERY annoying problem (bug?) with SH3 GWX - instant crew deaths for no apparent reason.

This problem has occured 7 times now, the last one was last night - and its happened on a type VIIC, IXB and now on a IXD2 (late 1943).

This is last nights little episode...

I decided to start a late-war patrol. So, leaving Bordeaux in my IXD2, I headed to my parol square NE of Rio de Janeiro. On the way, near the island of Madeira, I sank a large merchant in a very heavy storm before continuing. About 100k from the Brazilian coast I also scored a small merchant.

After patrolling my alloted square for the day (with nothing in sight or sound), I decided to head north to and try the Caribbean waters. On the way I soon found another large merchant, again in rough weather. Visibility was down to around 600m so I decided on a surface attack. It was early evening so quite dark. I managed to approach safely and put two torps into her with a spread fire at 2 degrees apart (full manual aiming and targeting). Upon impact the searchlights lit up - and so did her guns! One torp hit just aft of her bow, the other hit just forward of the bridge.

As soon as I fired I ordered a crash dive, but due to the slow dive speed of a IXD2 and the rough seas I was still visible when the torps hit so she was able to get a few shots at my hull.

Now this is where it gets odd.

After reaching 40m I levelled off and ordered a NW course. I could hear the ship breaking up so knew it was safe to surface.

Below the surface I had my repar team fix some minimal damage to the bow torp room, but the bridge/tower was yellow showing slight damage only - this as you know can only be fixed once surfaced.

So, I ordered periscope depth and nothing was in sight except for the stern of the stricken merchant slowly sinking below the waves. There was nothing on sonar. So I surfaced.

As soon as I levelled off the watch crew automatically scrambled to the bridge - only to all die instantly!

I then clicked on my repair team to fix the bridge - they too all died instantly!

Within 10 seconds my ships quarters were filled with bright red dead bodies!

Yet, the damage was shown as slight - there wasn't even any damage marks visible from the external view.

I was able to click the bridge view and was ok standing there - but whenever I assigned a crew-member to the bridge they just died!

There was nothing in the area - pressing the '.' (period) key that cycles view to all vessels and planes etc. did nothing - there was only my sub there!

Anyone else experienced this???

Talk about frustrating!

As I mentioned before, this has happened on numerous occasions. I've had the same thing whether it was shell fire, bombs (from planes) or depth-charges. Once the tower gets slightly damaged everyone I send there instantly dies!

It means I cannot surface, because the watch crew don't have a chance!

Anyone know a fix for this - PLEASE????

I'm running SH3 1.4b, GWX, GWX 23rd Dec updates and SH3 Commander 2.7. I recently added Anvarts excellent rotation mod for the loop antenna, but that can't have caused it as the problem was there before. I only added this mod 2 days ago.

that is really wierd, i cant think of anything other than a new bug or just a bad install of something, or coz there is a storm theyre all getting struck by lightening sorry i cant be more help

Bad dates. Be careful of the food stores going bad!:-?

Haven't had that one...knock on wood. I've had the bug where I caught up with a previously mauled convoy where DD's are burning and disabled...then a CTD. You want to talk about annoying!

Bit late for that I'm afraid - just uninstalled SH3/GWX and all related files!

Sounds like radiation poisoning, wonder just what was in those shells fired by that large merchant??? :hmm: ;)

Yes, please let us know how it turns out. It sure sounded like a bug to me....hope the reinstall fixes things.

It has always occurred while I was using time compression, in the range of 16, 32, 64 or more, IIRC.

Suddenly, my entire crew is dead, and there is NOT always damage indicated.

It has always happened to me on the surface. Once inbound on the Kiel canal.

Strangely, it's always toward the end of my 5th patrol (at least twice)...

This sounds to me like another death by FRIENDLY minefields placed in GW/GWX.

Follow your escort out... and then back in to avoid them.

OK guys, I've done a complete re-install of SH3 1.4b, GWX, 23rd Dec updates and SH3 Commander 2.7 (with updated GWX files).

Also added mods, those that shipped with GWX:

16km Atmosphere
Integrated Orders
Main Movie - Das Boot
No Medals on Crew

Plus:

Anvarts excellent antenna rotation mod
Sobers Dark Smoke - first time I've used it
And the new DC Sounds posted recently (sorry, don't know author)

Well, so far so good. I loaded up SH3 via SH3Commander and tried a single mission - the PQ17 convoy. I sank 5 ships (Sobers smoke looks good at distance, less 'squared' if you know what I mean).

After a while I surfaced intentionally to get hit - and yes, they scored hits on the tower. I then dived and fixed the internal stuff before moving off to safer waters to surface.

Moment of truth - assembled the repair crew then surfaced - and I was able to assign them to fix it!! - without dying!! - hooray!

So, things appear OK (so far).

I'll try another couple of single missions then a career and see if it holds up.

OK,

After the re-install I took the boats out on several single missions - some suicidal to see what happens with the damage - others to hit convoys etc. and test the stealth.

So far, so good!

I'll now try it with a career.

Just like to add, the new DC sounds are great - there's a lot of bass to them, and when exploding in the distance you hear a crumpled thudding sound - very good! - Makes one hell of a noises when its close too!!

So hopefully that has resolved the issue with instant deaths on the bridge. Only time will tell......

I thought I had this problem too and it happened twice to me once in 42 for no apparent reason all my crew died and last night in Mid 44 in the Straights Of Hormunts just took some tankers out.after the escorts cleared I took a look around with the external cam and saw nothing,nothing on Nav Map too surfaced and bang bang but I found out that there were 3 aircraft in the area which didn't show on the mapI wouldn't have known if I didn't man the guns AA/DC and my flack crew opened up.but at a cost of 10 crewmen and 2 NCOs.:damn:
