Just bored....so I thought I could ask this....oh and give a reson too btw...
myself....I like Brest, since it's easy to get in, easy to get out, and it's close to the action.
I HATE Lorient though. It's so thin and it takes ages to get out!

I absolutely will not use Kiel for any reason. I just can't stand the canal. Lorient doesn't bother me, as I have set SH3 Commander to up the TC when close to land.

I waypoint around Lorient and go ahead slow till I clear out of port.

I like St. Nazaire, it's the only French port I've operated from so far, again it's lovely to be near the action :arrgh!: Kiel is my least favourite

Naaa. Kiel is okay for me. (0% realism). I just take the long way around, like before GWX.

I like Kiel. It's neat going under the bridges. But then again I play at a lower TC than perhaps many do so it's not a big deal to me to go through the canal.
(And I remember when the game first came out there was such a hullaballoo about, "Whaddya mean the Kiel canal isn't modeled?!" :rotfl: )

Kiel is a great port
Close to the Polish baltic ports for the first patrol
Has nearly all of the major surface units in at one time or another - sometimes up to 3 together
The canal is easy to get through and takes no time at all
Lorient is easy to get out of too - I stand on the bridge and guide the sub out of there
Constanza is real simple to exit as is St Naz and Penang
Salamis is a nice drive out - scenery is good and fairly simple
Not tried Jakarta or Toulon yet
Kiel is interesting once--after that I wanna transfer!
Leaving on my last patrol, the Hipper and the Blucher were docked at the base. They were interesting to see,
I sort of like Lorient it has a snug feel to it--plus I like the food :rotfl:

I'm in Wilhelmshaven now and have had Tirpitz sitting there on my way out on the last few patrols :arrgh!: Beautiful, it's the only larger German Warship I've seen though

Lorient is a navigational nightmare, j/k :). I just follow the escort out.
Wilhelmshaven is the same, Kiel is not easy to get out of.
Have not tried any of the others, yet.
With all the careers I've run, Lorient is home. Tho it's a ways inland and takes a bit of time ot get out to sea from, I like it. For my GWX career, I've started at Wlhelmshaven but if I can stay out until after Sept 1, 1940, I'll be transferred to Lorient. Lorient is close to the action in grid BE where yiou can always find tonage to sink. ;)

Wit a type VIIB, VIIC, or IXB like mine?
For Wlhelmshaven career, seeing it was available Aug 1940, the IXB. Love that sub. :D I'll jump to a IXC and IXD/2 as soon as I can. ;)

Try to earn enough renown to get to a IXC then IXc/40 then IXD2.

LOL, I love Kiel...
I think it is the most diverse least-boring port in the game.
The 3D Moltenort Memorial is there...
Scenic Kiel Canal and bridges...
I don't understand why ppl hate it.
To each his own I guess though.;)

No no you ninny. We put the Moltenort Memorial into SH3... It was built in the 1930's if I recall correctly... and it still stands there in real life today.

I thought it was built later on after the war.

Since I always leave port at TCx1 following the Flottenbegleiter and enjoying the ride (never the same time, the same light...) I like all of those I tried so far. Will have to try Kiel as I always started my careers in Wilhelmshaven until now for the Atlantic. For the Med just started at Salamis, beautiful colors with sun coming out under light clouds. I have a special feeling for La Rochelle, Lorient and Toulon as I lived there or close nearby IRL.

After playing GWX for two weeks, I must say that I'm really starting to like Kiel. The scenery is absolutely top notch. Granted the canal is a royal pain in the arse, but thats just one of those times you just have to go off and do the dishes or watch a movie (Das Boot never gets old ).

I thought it was built later on after the war.
The first memorial opened 8 June 1930 (the first stone was laid in 1926). Due to subsequent decay, it was re-built/altered and re-opened 12 June 1938.
It's the re-built memorial (obviously) that is modelled in GWX.
FYI the memorial first listed the names of those who fell during WWII in Sep 1970.

St Nazaire and the 7īth is home.
Kiel is a treat with all big ships.
La Spezia has a good feeling.
Bergen has its Fjords and itīs a nice cruise.
Brest, my current base, is too close to the RAF.
How long will it take to visit all friendly harbors?:hmm:

I love Kiel it has a great atmosphere and going down the canal is not as bad as some make out. As someone said earlier Constanza is real easy to to get in and out of.
Well here is why i love kiel and the canal so much.

I agree Kiel has the most atmosphere. Of course to be fair I haven't seen 'em all yet in GWX....

Not having played past 1940 I've only seen Kiel and Wilhelmshaven. Love them both. Though I haven't played since long before GWX, I used the Canal many times and like going through it at a moderate TC, slowing down to look at the sights along the way. Great trip.

I love Bergen. It's easy to get out of, even at 1024 TC.
I allways pick Kiel and later transfer to Lorient- never realy tried anything else. I have no real problem with both harbors: I like a slow ride out of the harbor- I imagine myself on the bridge going out, not knowing if I'll ever come back, little children watch the predatory U-boat from the shore with awe, unxperienced new watch officer standing behind me not saying a thing but completely on the edge waithing my next order, random crew on deck of the small coastal destroyer saluting, cold november wind mixed with salt blowing in my face and the setting sun on the horizon :arrgh!:.
And just when the sun sets and the land sinks below the horizon behind I say:
"Ahead two thirds, navigator set course 275, radio Lorient harbor and tell Jurgen well see eachother again in a couple of weeks... its time for the hunt"
and I calmly walk down the ladder in the conning tower...
This is the stuff that makes SHIII whait it is...

or what it should be......it's never like the movies you know.....
BTW, just had my best partol EVER!!!! On the same night, I sunk 12(!!!!) ships from a convoy heading for Gibraltar (probably from Freetown). One of them was my first warshipkill, a Black Swan class, who was already burning! I guess that it was a U-boat who did that. it was the only escort though, and this was late 1940, so it was like a turkey shoot! I lost all my ammo, a personal record for me!:arrgh!:
Bergen is a bugger getting through all the Fjords to actually get to the open ocean. Nice scenery through and lots of choices of which direction to go so maybe I's me and not my parrot who is pining for the fjords?

Well said, mate, these are nice moments... and having spent some time at sea irl helps appreciating them (thats something else than movies...), or others like a sunrise on a partly cloudy day on a calm sea, specially in the Med.
