I learned yesterday that the real magnification a U-boats periscope had in WW2 was 6x max, so i want to know what file do i have to change to enable this.

Sorry for my lazyness but I'm at work and I can't re-call all the correct details. However, I have dug up an old post from Marhkimov......

I find that I can use the mouse wheel to toggle to zoom level 10.

For instance, at the obs periscope I can scroll up once to go to 1x zoom. Then I can scroll up once more to go to 10x zoom.

To do this, all you have to do is use TT's mini tweek tool and change the camera.dat "optical" settings. You can do this for whichever instrument you want: UZO, obs peri, attack peri, binoculars. Go to the optical tab for the instrument and change the unknown values 1 and 2.

The first value will be the zoom level for the first wheel scroll. The second value will be the zoom level for the second wheel scroll. For instance, here are the default values for the obs periscope:

unknown value = 1
unknown value = 4

Change it to this:

unknown value = 1
unknown value = 10

And it will work

THE TRICK... is that you have to move the backup file that is created in data\library. It is called "Copy of Cameras.dat" and you cannot leave it in that folder or else it will override any changes you have made. Either move it out or put it in a sub-folder.

do you know if there's any way of adding a third option? so you could have
1X 6X 10X?

Don't quote me, I think that is not possible.

However, some bright modder will come along and prove me wrong.:shifty:

The 10x was added as compensation because real life optics were better than an LCD...

You can also use the mouse-wheel, to change zoom (just like you can use it to use the binoculars).

Kumando isn't talking about switching back and forth between zoom levels. He wants to change the maximum zoom from 10x back to 6x. When I can play again I'll be wanting the same thing.

How do your Tick markes behave.....

Will they still represent the correct amount of degrees in the periscope...??

deamyont is absolutely correct. In GW/GWX we "upped" the magnification of the attack periscope and other optics a bit because the visual clarity in real life is not present in SH3... This holds hands with the grey contacts... the intent being to require the shooter to first identify the target's nationality/viability as a target.

Playing GWX, have had the periscope go back down to 6x magnification from 10x. I don't care either way if I get 10x back, but I am curious on what changed it.

Mods I have:

- Dec 23 fix
- Hydrophone fix
- A few of the mods that came with GWX, No Medals on Crew, Crew Icons.
- Spysat
- Fubars U 552 Skin
- Sober's 3-D Waves
- Depth Charge Shake

Running SHCommander 2.7 with GWX fixes.

Any ideas here? Thanks.

Depth Charge Shake - afair that mod alters the camaras.dat file (data/library) and that file contains the x10 info for GWX.

So if the modmeister did not use the GWX file base to make the mod from....

Localy i have changed that as well resetting the periscopes and UZO to the default values, but then upping the Bino to x10 (is x8 in GWX) as a compensation.

Is it difficult to up the bino's to 8x

Mav87th

reallydedpoet - im pretty sure that stock GWX + 23rd dec ARE at x8

I have uped my Bino here to x10 from x8, but lowered periscope to x6 from x10, lowered obs. to x4 and UZO to x7.
