What do you people do to see in good conditions with the periscope at night? I have always to turn the brightness up because i cant see a thing and its so hard do identify the targets sails at night. I need some advice :-? .

Use this one flag thingy to identify whose ship it belongs on top corner of the periscope view unless u dont have GWX on.

Always remember that you can switch to 10x magnification in periscope

I know that some people go to the external camera and move right up close to the ship as an aid to identifying the flag :arrgh!:

Thats a cheat i only play with WE on but never ask him for a solution, i only ask him ship identification sometimes because im new to the game and sometimes i have difficulty identifying the boats especially the warships.

External cam is a cheat; so is 10x magnification. Real periscopes were very hard to see out of at night. This is why they attacked on the surface at night.

10x magnification is cheat? The GWX team made such an intense search for historical accuracy and i dont beleive they would put 10x magnification if it wasnt accurate.

I think they made some changes based on gameplay value though. I think the 10X scope is part of a larger theme. What i mean is they did go out of their way to try and eliminate hints/signs of a ships nationality. All contacts grey. No green for neutral, red for hostile. THey removed the music (also a big clue as to hostility or not), they bascially did everythign they could to make you try and ID the ship by staring at at's flag before you shoot your fish. I think thats why they gave a 10X mag scope. To aid the player in that regard. The flags ARE hard to see.

That said, i changed mine to X8, (althoguh historically i think they went to X6). Reason being, i found the X10 scope, much like puttng on a set of horse blinders. It really narrowed your perhiphral vision which i didn't much care for.

I'm with Steve on this one. Get up there, get some fresh air and kick some arse:up: Never mind the flags....let Donitz sort it out:D. If the lights are out on the vessel, the Allied be home!

The original devs also put in a lot of research. Observations scopes were 1x and 4x; Attack scopes were 1.5x and 6x. I think the UZO was 7x, but I'm not sure on that one. 10x was orinally a single mod to make it easier when doing manual targetting.

Anyone can tell how you can change it back to x 6 ? I don't know in which file it is stated...

Remember, having fun is not cheating. At some point we will drown in the pursuit of ultra-realism. Its a game, and it should be fun too.

I think the whole point of GWX to increase the mag in the attack scope was to compensate for **a lot** of details that were noticeable in real life, while they aren't in the game. Real life skippers didn't have resolution-limited scope views either...

So I find the x10 scope magnification a perfect compromise to compensate for that fact. Don't think it detracts anything from the simulation.
