1.-When near convoy game slows to point where it appears frozen especially if a ship is nearby, but eventually it goes back to normal as ship gets some distance away (approx 200 meters).

2.- Game freezes when lone ship appears in sight. Unable to do anything, save, exit. When hitting escape nothing happens. Sound comes back on when hitting escape second time. Requires several attempts to get program manager to shut down game.

3.-In last incident, Periscope magnification did not work, nor would it lock on target. Torpedoed and sank one freight/passenger ship, saved game. Departed area, reloaded tubes, saved and closed game.

4.-returned to game after repair. The second save did not work. Periscope magnification would stop game.

My machine is an HP 221 GHz 896 MB Ram with an Athlon 64 processor3200+

I never had any problem with SHIII (1.4 patch)

My GWX is getting worse! Can anyone help? :damn:

I run the game with 3200+, Nvidia 6200OC 256MB vidcard and 1024RAM. Ports can get choppy but all other play is fine. Sounds like some fine tuning for you. How do you have the RAM allocated? All other programs shut down? Firewalls/virus program shut off? Most importantly, what vid card you have?

I'm a computer idiot. How does one find out what video card one has?

Go to the START button lower left hand corner of he screen. Go to CONTROL PANEL. Click on icon that is labelled SYSTEM, once open click on HARDWARE tab, then click on device manager, Look for "display adapter" This should show you the card you have. It sounds like your using an onboard videocard to me. Check it out anyway.

Perhaps the video card is not up to snuff at the moment. Try this first. Shutdown all background programs you are not using. It sounds like your hard drive is swapping files like it is RAM. Free up as much RAM as you can for the game. See how it runs. As far as your video, sounds like you need a card. Look into one (Nvidia) and install it. It is plug and play on the motherboard....extemely easy.

Tried AVG's suggestion. Shut everything down, sent 200+ screenies into online storage. Game ran a bit better. Met a small freighter, attacked with deck gun. But everythime I tried to use optics (periscope, binoculars, UZO) the game would freeze. To switch from frozen UZO to bridge had to go via the chart screen. But when freighter was destroyed, all I could get was the chart screen. Aaaarrgghh!

Do you think getting a better video card would help? (under a hundred bucks?)
