Will the actual event when yamato was sunk by american aircraft be scripted into the singleplayer or a mission?
and will we be able to encounter yamato on patrols before her sinking and possibly alter history by sinking her first :p

I think that's outside of the SHIII range, read the GWX manual

well, umm, I dunno

I'd say it's highly likely. I have no idea what they're planning, but if there will be single missions depicting famous encounters, then Darter and Dace's engagement with Kurita's Center Force in Palawan Passage is sure to be among them. I doubt her actual sinking will be in there however. I don't forsee a final sortie to Okinawa for Yamato being programmed in to the campaign, but you never can tell.

I see no reason why Yamato wouldn't be in the campaign, but unless they change the way the campaign works, you'll likely see her even after she's been sunk. And again, and again :)

In one of my SH1 campaigns, I sank four Yamato class BBs! But strangely, in all my campaigns, I only came across the Shinano once.

A little fact about the Yamato:

When the Yamato fired its guns any crew outside the main body had to be encased in steel because of the shock of the gun. So all AA positions were in turrets before more were added but this meant that the crew manning them had to leave the deck before they fired. Check wikipedia for more info.

Yeah looks like they have done a great job representing the cannons on yamato. If you look at the screenshot of it fireing the blast in enormous :p

After the fight with Bismarck, HMS Rodney had to go in for a refit. The shock from her 16" guns buckled hull plates and flooded the torpedo room, among other things.

Big guns make big boom. I'm also happy to hear that Yamato's guns have a large visible blast. I hope it's true of others as well.

I doubt the actual sinking of the Yamato will be in the SHIV campaign, as she was sunk in 1945 and the dev team has clearly stated that the campaign will be cut off in October of 1944.:nope:

One trivia

I forget detail,
in around 1944 Ymato had took one torpedo from enemy submarine,

MOST OF CREW didn't notice, they attacked by torpedo.
They felt a little bit impact , but they thougt it was nothing....
Because Yamato function normal.

So even if we can find and chance to attack YAMATO,
it will be very very very hard to sink.:know:

CV Shinano was different situation, Shinano was not completed every
equipment. Even on the way to Kure base from Yokosuka base,
a lot of factory labor on board and working.
Crew were not enough trained.
So shinano was very easy to sink.

From Yamatos TROM:

10 June 1942:
1200 miles SE of Tokyo. After sunset, an unidentified submarine fires two torpedoes at YAMATO about 100 miles NNE of Minami-Torishima (Marcus Island). YAMATO and the other ships in the Main Body turn to port and both torpedoes miss.

28 August 1942:
Near Truk. YAMATO is attacked by LtCdr (later Vice Admiral) Glynn R. Donaho's USS FLYING FISH (SS-229). Since Donaho's ONI 41-42 "Recognition Manual" does not include the unknown YAMATO-class, he identifies her as a "KONGO-class" battleship. Donaho fires four Mark 14 steam torpedoes and thinks that he sees two hits, but they are premature explosions. YAMATO launches at least one E13A1 "Jake" floatplane to counter-attack. FLYING FISH is bombed and depth-charged by four escorts, but makes good her escape.

25 December 1943:
180 miles NE of Truk. At 0320, LtCdr (later Rear Admiral) Eugene B. McKinney, acting on an "Ultra", is running on the surface in USS SKATE (SS-305). McKinney picks up YAMATO at 27,000 yards. He dives and tries to close, but is unsuccessful until YAMATO turns towards him. He passes down her starboard beam, turns and fires his four stern tubes at her. One or two Mark 14-3A torpedoes hit YAMATO on the starboard hull near turret No. 3 at 10-5N, 150-32E. A total failure of the main armor belt system occurs due to a flawed joint between the upper and lower side protection belts. The upper magazine for No. 3 turret floods. YAMATO takes on about 3,000-tons of water. The transport mission is aborted.

10 January 1944:
Departs Truk for Kure with DesDiv 4's MICHISHIO, ASAGUMO and DesDiv 32's FUJINAMI.
11 January 1944:
At 1800, YAMATO is spotted by USS HALIBUT (SS-232), but the submarine is unable to attack.
14 January 1944:
At 2330, USS BATFISH (SS-310) picks up YAMATO group on radar, then visually, but BATFISH is unable to close the range for an attack.

10 June 1944: Operation "KON" - The Relief of Biak:
1600: Departs Tawi Tawi for Batjan with the MUSASHI, CruDiv 5's HAGURO and MYOKO, DesRon 2's light cruiser NOSHIRO and destroyers. Cdr Sam Dealey in USS HARDER (SS-257), on station nearby, reports the Kon Force leaving Tawi Tawi.

15 June 1944:
YAMATO group is sighted and reported by the USS SEAHORSE (SS-304) east of Mindanao.

21 November 1944:
The YAMATO group is attacked by USS SEALION II (SS-215). KONGO and destroyer URAKAZE are sunk.

So it looks like she had quite a bit of contact with the silent service over her career.

Of course one torpedo hit wasn't going to be notice by the crew, with the armor of the Yamato. Don't you forget that the battleship manage to resist the sea water and then fire from gamillon spaceships, and travel to space and destroy almost everything that was on it way...:D

I'm sorry but I couldn't resist to make a connection with Space Battleship Yamato...or Star Blazers.

The images are from the last movie made about the Yamato, "Yamato:Final Battle"?

How come nobody wants to be in the San Bernadino Strait to see the Yamato's sister ship the Musashi get pummeled by carrier planes? She put up one heck of a fight too. In that battle the Musashi actually used her 18.1" guns against incoming US aircraft using a special spray shell called sanshiki-dan (beehive). However, it proved ineffective.

That would be another awsome event to see. I would be happy if they included both the Yamato and Musashis final fights :D As long as we get to try having a go at them before their undoing

ABSOLUTELY you can if Ubisoft scripts its movements, in different engagements.

In its last patrol to Okinawa (Operation Ten-Go), she was spotted by subs

(extracted from Wikipedia)
Two U.S. submarines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Submarine), Threadfin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Threadfin_%28SS-410%29) and Hackleback (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Hackleback_%28SS-295%29), sighted the Japanese force as it proceeded south through Bungo Suido (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bungo_Suido) but were unable to attack

If possible, I would like to be either Threadfin or Hackleback and sink Yamato...

WARNING: You only have 6 bow + 4 stern. That BEAST needs at least 8 fish to sink (due to its large size)
