Who is currently using MIG-17... Seems like it is decommisioned in many countries... Oh, yes, N. Korea still using it... Excellent against helicopters :D but bad against aircrafts:cry:

N. Korea is not really to decommision is out dated stuffs

She still put T-34-85, Whiskey class sub, MIG-17, and another out dated trash in service

What the hell is N. Korean government thinking???

Although I prefer the Mig 15...

I have to agree with you.

There's just some thing about the simplicity of these 2 aircraft...

I bought Osprey's MiG-17 in Combat book, it's totally cool:rock:

I just viewed the MIG19 video. Why hasn't rocket-boosted, truck trailer takeoff technology been put to use? I would think there's a tremendous tactical advantage to launching planes far away from obvious targets like airfields.

:hmm:

In west Germany entire squadrons were tested with this system because the Soviets would've annihilated the airfields or nuked them before you could shout AIR-RAID! But when you launch more than one plane with rocket boosters the amount of smoke left behind is so tremendous it's impossible to launch another flight untill the cloud has dissipated. Do you remember the last Shuttle take-off? I guess that's the amount of smoke an entire wing would generate. :88)

Now it's too late anyway. You can probably think of tactical advantages to decentralized air squadrons being launched from the middle of forests, caves, from under the sea. It just isn't required anymore.

In the real world this is what happens when MIGs engage western jets.

EDIT:
Fox One is a semi-active RADAR guided missle, AKA AIM-7 Sparrow
Fox Two is a IR guided missle, AKA AIM-9 Sidewinder
Fox Three is an active RADAR guided missle, AKA AIM-120 AMRAAM, we'll probably be hearing many more Fox Three calls as apposed to Fox One calls now.

Google +USAF +"brevity code" (http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=%2Busaf+%2B%22brevity+code%22).

I went through a lot of this jargon preparing an OFP single player campaign based on piloting an A10 Warthog. I received a lot of help from AF servicemen on various game forums. I used the soundtrack of this YouTube film as background environment noise played during one of the campaign's missions.

Gee was that fun! :yep:

I've seen MiG-15s in mock combat with F-86s at air shows.

Lots of fun.

I bet it was!! I wish I could see that!!
There's just some thing about MiG 15s and F 86s going toe to toe... no rockets... no guided missiles...just the guns they brung to the fight...Best pilot wins

You're pitting them against F-14s?! Give them a chance! Anyway, damn I wish my AI wingmen in Falcon 4 were that smart!

They were MIG 21s.

In that youtube video that portrays the Gulf of Sirta shootdown? They were MiG-23s( both IRL and the vid). Is the video of the F-14s flying around just stock footage? I've heard the audio before and seen the HUD tape, didn't know that cockpit video existed of it. FYI: the swearing when they're trying to shoot the guy with a 'winder at the end isn't because the missile wouldn't lock, the pilot forgot to turn the AIM-9 tone up to an audible level.

Edit: Sorry, it was Gulf of Sidra, not Sirta.

Yes, most of it is stock footage, and some of the narration is wrong (the f-14s wanted to get low B/C their weapons would work better compaaired to the Lybian MIGs in a shoot up battle...........intellegence report). The audio is spot on and the last few frames when the f-14 splashes the MIG is accurate.

BTW at the end when the fella is talking about 'un-loading' its not weapons he is talking about.

Rifle is for AGM-65 Maverick.
Magnum is for AGM-88 HARM.

There doesn't seem to be any munition in Falcon 4 that will give me a "Shotgun" call so heck if I know.

A few years ago I went to Duxford on a cold day and I spotted a MIG-15 on the runaway I had to wait some 20 minutes to watch it take off, well worth the wait.

Next time you go see if you can sport the mig 21 fish bed in there, i know the guy who owns it.

I remember reading in "Smitsonians' Air & Space" a while back how US Air Force tried such a program. Article showed F-100's launching from flatbeds. Found out that it was harder on airframes (and pilots) than normal carrier launch. Check mag. archives at library for full details.
