It is truly a beautiful country! You are all welcome to visit....
I think safe-keeper loves the tribute, since there is actually photos of Bergen city in the video.
I'll post a picture of my home town, Harstad, in the North of Norway hee, so you can see where i live:
http://harstad.rotary.no/files/bilder/web/460px/460px-0007-119-02.jpg

And the "Adolf-cannon (The worlds largest land-based cannon), the thing Harstad is most proud of!
http://www.nasjonalefestningsverk.no/portal/fbimg/nfv/redesign/trondenes.jpg
This mother of all cannons, called "Barbara", is the only one of four cannons that are made available to the public. It has a barrel diameter of 40,6 cm, and could fire a shell weighing 1080 kg all the way from Harstad to Narvik..
When the Germans retreated from Harstad, they burned all the documents explaining how to operate this beast. After the war (in 1956), some engineers managed to solve this problem, and they rigged the cannon for a test shot. Non of the engineers dared to stay inside the cannon when it was fired, so they rigged a remote firing-device and stood outside when the firing took place.
The result: Broken windows in the city located 3km away and bleeding from the ears of the people standing outside...

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/8715/4jm5.th.jpg (http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=4jm5.jpg)And here's the view from my house, on a particularly pretty night.

It has its problems, but it's a beautiful, wonderful nation. Let's hope we manage to keep it that way for a long time still. Bergen is strongly recommended, as is, well, just about every city in Norway I've been to. If you're planning to visit Sweden, the little town Karlstad near the Norwegian border is a must-visit. It's a gorgeous little place.

As for the cannon: Wow. Just wow. Even though I've seen photos of it a thousand times before, it simply never seizes to amaze me.

@ safe-keeper: You live in a truly beautiful area! Thats for sure! Nice pics indeed!
I was just thinking: My ex-girlfriend (yeah, we broke up, but are still excellent friends) has a car, that weighs about 800 kg (a nissan micra -86). This cannon could actually toss something that heavy all the way to Narvik! What a sight, indeed!:smug:

:rotfl:Nissan Micra! I have ravaged my moms Micra several times. It is really fun to put that car through roundabouts at high speed. Understeer!

(By the way, my ex girlfriend also had a Micra, seth, maybe its a Norwegian thing)

Sorta on topic; I would love to see a Micra be shelled from Harstad to Narvik, since I have a strong distaste for budget cars with no soul.

Loos!

I really don't like it when Norwegians are trying to tell the whole world how beautiful their country is. It's beautiful enough, but there is no need to do too much of it.

But there is one good thing in that video, a pic of a Scandinavian Airlines aircraft...or in fact one of its engines shot from the cabin ;)

When I was stationed in Aschaffenburg with the US Army I toured all over Europe and had a blast!!! Actually went to Italy by mistake because I fell asleep on the train and they woke me at the border crossing. The only country I didn't make it to was England, sure regret that. That being said and not to appear mean, but I completely disliked going to France. This back back in the mid-80's but they were rude as all get out, at that point I could speak both English and German (German has faded away, if you don't use it you loose it), and on top of that all the people I did have extended contact with STANK!! Just my 2 marks worth :p

I went to Hammerfest, Norway with my parents in 1966. If I recall it right there was a ferry trip to get to Hammerfest. That was in mid july and the town was the windiest and dampest place I have ever been. Food was good. Baked potatoes and cod.(pyttipannu:hmm: )
