Hi all, sorry about the nerd thing!:rotfl:I have my control panel view settings set to "Icons" but just lately for some reason, after shutting computer down - starting the next morning finds the layout to "List", I click on view properties & sur enough set to "List"! I then change back to "Icons" but stuffed the next day or so again.:-?
Does anyone have an idea how to stop this, I can't recall anywhere in XP that could effect this! Not a real big deal just annoying that it eludes me!:x
Frustrated Reece.

Open your control panel, set the view to "Icons" as usual.
Then on top, where it says:
File | Edit | View | Favorites | Tools...
Click on "Tools", after that choose "Folder Options..." after choose the "View" tab, then click on the "Apply to All folders". It should stay from now on. Afterwards if you don't like the other folder to be on "Icon" views, just repeat this, the Control panel will stay on "Icon" view.
I have everything set to "List" view, but my control panel is set to Icons, if it works for me, it should work for you.

Hope it helps, and I hope that is what you are talking about...

BTW, I am not a nerd... :D

Thanks, that did it! of course explorer changes back to Icons, I will now proceed to change view to "Details" set to default settings & then change Control Panel back to "Icons"! Sheesh! Where's the asprin!!:88)
Don't suppose you know how to change the default startup folder for Windows Explorer? I searched through register & changed a few things with no success! Oh yes, I set them back again!!;) Editing the register is a must but dangerous! Amazing how it grows in size, usually from installing/uninstalling applications, but uninstalling never seems to remove "all trace".:-?
Cheers.

Hi Reece and happy new year to you. I would like to recommend 'your Uninstaller 2006' for getting rid of applications/traces. The only thing it faltered on was Norton Internet Security stuff which is a pig to get [completely] rid of; in the end, used Norton/Symantec's own removal tool for this.

I am not sure what you mean by "change the default startup folder". :-?

Thanks Kpt. Munson, I'll check that out, but probably only good for installing new apps not for existing, correct me if I'm wrong.:yep:
Thanks to you also Perilscope, what I mean is that when starting explorer it always starts in "Documents and Settings\Start Menu", would be good if it started in the root or where I specifically want it to start.
Things didn't turn out very well after I changed the view to "List" then applied to all folders, then went to control Panel & changed view to "Icons", seemed ok until later I opened an app (PhotoImpact), and displayed the files to open in Icons but actually the Icons were previews of the files in the folder, tried to change the view in this dialog (menu view) but just reverts back & changing view "settings/apply to all folders" did nothing to fix this, at this point I saved all my settings (outlook Express etc) & Ghosted back to a version that was only a few weeks old.
The things that go on, I left some cooking frying on the stove & forgot about it untill 30mins later & the three adjoining rooms were so thick with smoke I couldn't see any thing except flames on the oven, a mitton had caught fire & the frypan melted! First thing I did was to run out & turn power off, took a deep breath, ran back in & wet a towel to throw over fire, all put out & raced outside for some air & opened all the outside doors, windows to clear the smoke. What a mess to clean up, took several hours to wash the walls, but even got in the cupboards destroying food that is only boxed or wrapped in paper, and yes a cleanup in here too!:x Finally down to repainting! That's what happens when you remove smoke detector that always goes off when making toast etc, it's back on now!
Happy New Year.:88)
PS. Forgot to mention I have the flu now! :damn:
