In the north atlantic the weather is windy all the time -winter forget it - hate to see flat calm seas for more than a day or two --this is very rare weather for the north atlantic even in summer on aveage 10-20knots in late june and july to about mid aug. things start to get ugly and stay that way 20-30 are common
10-15 --- 1 to 3 ft seas
15-25---2 to 5 --common
20-50 ----5to8 common fall/winter/spring

ok the sun maybe shining in january but i can garentee you the wind is honking offshore http://home.comcast.net/~codmander -----fact!

AFAIK, all you can do for the weather is change how fast it will change etc. The weather isnt effected by the time of the year nor the place where your sub is.

I think it will be in SHIV though or did I hear that incorrectly?

in their development clip #2 they said they had changed and improved the weather model, whatever that means...

so it may be a "yes" or it may be a "no". Who knows, until we own the game we won't know for sure.

What are the GWX settings for weather changes? I opened the mission editor and it appears that it's set to have a chance to change every 6 hours. But then again, I'm not very familiar with the editor and so I could be mistaken. Is the 6 hour thing correct?

tell me about it while playing last night encountered a convoy it started to rain and heavy fog couldn't hit a thing, broke off attack, weather soon cleared, encountered a second convoy,it started to rain again, had to break off again, weather cleared decided to return home, encounted 3rd convoy medium fog this time,(no escorts well couldn't see any GWX) attacked convoy half way through the attack it started to rain again:damn: :damn: decided to do a surface attack torps/guns until a large merchant put a hole in me and I started to get flooding went down to 230m before I could stop the flooding.
Now I do like attacking in light or medium fog,i have the weather mod but i don't know if it works right I leave port in fine weather,I only seem to find something to sink in crap weather.

Apparently you missed my previous explaination... so to quote myself:

Okay, the weather in SH3 is generated at random based on the season.

The "weather interval" for the three campaign layers should be set at no less than "2." (based on extensive testing and prior mod forum threads)

The "weather interval" should MATCH in all three campaign layers.

The "weather interval" is the frequency at which the SH3 engine examines the CHANCE for a weather change to occur.

The "weather interval" is a value based on hours. (not days)

The weather has an inherent propensity to stay the same.

If you exit the game, upon re-entering the game the "timer" is set back to zero for the engine to check for a change in the weather.

I hope this helps.

Well damnit Kpt. Will you please change the inherent propensity please. :88) :88)

Just as soon as I finish my plans to take over the world... I will continue my work on the weather dominator machine and my death ray.

Patience! Patience! :stare: :stare: ;)

In all seriousness, at the moment we can't fix the weather problems... but who knows what will happen tomorrow or the next day.

Agreed, the weather in SH3 changes once a week, the maximum wind speed is 15 m/s...not very realistic. But this wind speed is enough to submerge the U-boat in heavy seas, our famous little bug, so I don't think we need more than 15

This is from the forum back in August (don't remember the author):

ok first of all the obligatory..i have no idea if this is implemented in any of the many super mods allready so ....lets not get into that area...suffice it to say that if it has allready been implemented then well done one and all...!!

this more or less completely resolves the two week storm trouble occasionaly experienced by most of us at some time or another..

i had noticed that it wasn't that the weather didn't actually change for two weeks game time..it was more a case of the weather changes being so minor that it hardly made any difference in game...

in the mission editor you will notice that for the weather you have the option of setting all weather changes to either minor or major...

setting all the options to major changes gives you tangible weather changes even during a protracted strom and vastly reduces the chances of a storm lasting any longer than a day or so...same with all other weather conditions..

here's the campaign.rnd weather section for major weather changes only

Also, the weather can be changed, including seasonal changes, in SH3Cmdr.

At 15m/s das boot is definitely rockin and rollin......it seems that the way the game is modeled...the stern is the lightest.....as it is always coming out of the water....is there a way to fix that?? Did the screws actually come out of the water in rough seas like in the sim??? Somehow I have a hard time believing they did.......What do you think??

I can't find the weather thang in SH3Commander2.7.

As for the screws.. I bet they probably did. In the short film bits you see in the GWX intro from Das Boot, the boats really bouncing around, looking like its doing \ at times, really pointing down.

I asked the same question, except about the watch crew being submerged during heavy seas. Poor guys must be coughing up sea water all the time. The sea keeping of the ships in SH3 is not rendered exactly as IRL - though I guess as accurately as the devs could at the time.

I'm hoping in SH4 this will be addressed.

This is what they're talking about. I liked using the random weather selection when I played GW1.1a but I'm not sure if it makes a difference with GWX yet. And I've never used the other options. You may want to though.

The waves in SH3 go straight thru the objects, they don't collide with the objects surface, in real life a wave should hit the watch tower, splash and go over it, the math calculations to produce that effect are astronomical, no existing PC can calculate that on real time.
