you could have a subsim with "The Sims" engine controling the crew :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:discuss. man in hindsite "Sub The Sims" would have been a better topic =D

i can see how this would go. you'd litterally control the crew individually but because there's 50 guys on board you'd constantly be lining them up to use the bathroom. or they'd just go where they were, they'd all be upset and angry and after working in the torpedo room for long hours many would be falling asleep.
some might even get trapped in compartments and die from malnutrition because 50 guys can't all grab a quick snack from the fridge (what fridge)
the inside of the sub would go from something akin to a machine of war into something out of a 70's disco horror. the command room floor would be one of those light up disco floors and there would be a love couch in the corner. in the bow bunk space there would be little room for torpedo's as you wouldn't see the 42" plasma and the kewl stereo system in there along with at least a wardrobe and lots of beds, the beds are important because the crew don't know how to sleep on a bunk or how to share them for that matter.
i guarentee that after about 2 hours every member of the crew will be shouting for your attention, every single one with have a deep red icon above their head. then you'll get depth charged...

you may even find that one sim continues to dress in womens clothing and have a tendancy to steer the ship INTO the port (as apposed to "into port") also no matter what name you give him it will always change to....
yup.....Bernard.

When I'm trying to juggle my crew and their fatigue levels, I already feel like I'm playing The Sims as it is!

I once tried to simulate Das Boot in The Sims. I built a long, narrow house with eight bunks in front, a really cramped dining room, one bathroom, no shower, a really minimalist kitchen, and two tiny cubbyholes where my sims could sit down and listen to music when they got bored. I also built a "control room" with a pinball machine and a couple ancient computers, and a little fenced-in yard where my crew could go out and paint. After two days, my kitchen had caught on fire three times, trash was piling up everywhere, and everyone hated each other, kept pissing on the floor, and were constantly getting into fights.
Not a particurly disciplined bunch. :shifty:

all jokes aside (i did want everyone to have fun with the topic). i would like to see a similar engine but on a serious note. unfortunatly the memory use would be insane. i just dont feel any sort of connection with my sh3 drones, even thought it is a step up from no crew at all! i think anyone who playsa 1x campaign could see the relevance of your crew haveing emotion and little perks. on a funny note i would be more than happy to have my overworked engine room thats been depth charged for the last 2 hours start running from murderous imaginary clowns keke.
{edit} also , wouldnt it add exponetially to the immersion if you could traverse you uboat and see men playing cards to pass time , men sleeping on the engines, men crack under battle pressure and go into a panic so you have to go and talk him down. men reading book cramped into the small crew quarters , catching a watchmen slacking and smack him upside the head and threaten to throw him off the boat. look beyond "The Sims" goofyness and you can see a chance for a awesome sim.Why TC when you can have fun just watching over your crew as any captian did.the possabilities are endless. maybe in 10-20 years you can script in convorsations similar to RPG's like baulders gate. with advances in voice recognition you could hold a conversation with your crewmen.....sounds fun to me =).not to mention calling your crew to battlestations and watching as 50 men scuttle about the boat to their stations. i just dont get that feeling in any sim , and i know they cant do that yet but it is on the horizon and i cant wait.

That, and they kept sniffing their armpits in disgust every five seconds, and breaking down in tears from being so lonely. None of them wanted to change out of their pajamas after the first day, either. :rotfl:
