Just to let people know that on Friday 5th December at 9pm (GMT) A documentary called "Timewatch: The Hunt for U-864" is being shown on British BBC 2 Television. The "Timewatch" series programmes are always very well done.
The summary of the program is listed as follows

" Dramatised documentary telling the true story of how in February 1945, HMS Venturer hunted down and sank the U-Boat U864, the only time two submarines duelled to the death underwater. Eyewitness accounts, secret and long-forgotten archive material and a dive into the Baltic's frozen depths bring to life the full amazing story of U864's last hours."

I hope people find this helpful, if you have access to BBC 2 Television

Cheers,

Martin

Yes he did:

"U864 will be shown on 5 January 9pm BBC TWO."

Still thanks for the heads-up.

Great, look forward to that; hasn't been much U-Boat stuff on our gogglebox lately, just the usual crap !

I'm sure it's on NRK soon enough, this is a hot issue these days.

The BBC is rolling out a programme of making it's output available on the net. So far, with one exception, this doesn't extend to TV. However, ANY BBC radio programme can be listened to, for up to a week, using the "Listen Again" feature on the BBC web-site. Some of their flagship radio series are left up permanently. They are also extending the range of programs that they podcast (and that wil include some TV programmes - one - QI - is available already - hilarious! - grab it, cos it's a hoot!)

As for time-watch, my guess is that the BBC won't want to miss a chance to get revenue by selling it, so expect it on a satellite TV Channel in the not too distant future. Wish I could be more helpful.

Cheers, Martin

I couldn't find much about this on the BBC web, wonders if this a BBC production or in cooperation with NRK, the Norwegian Broadcasting Cooperation. They do make a lot of documentarys together and shown on both channels.

I would think that NRK should be interested in this, since the uboat is outside the norwegian coast. (And also the fact that this has been in the norwegian news lately).

I know that Seth, but I'm trying to find out who's behind the production, if anyone except BBC.
