I've been assigned in April of 1942 to patrol CA29 which is right off Long Island NY from my home port at Lorient and I know I won't have nearly enough fuel to make it there and back in my IXC. I looked for refueling points/subs using F1 and can't find any around that date and area which will work for me. Should I use Sub Commander to change to a new patrol area?

Also, when I do find a milkcow ship/sub, what is the procedure for taking on fuel/torpedoes?

Thanks.

An IXC should be able to make that. Set speed to 8kts.

First map out your course including the return journey and then get the navigator to tell you your max range at current speed. It should be tight but you can do it.

Also, IIRC, I milkcow should be available in the area.

Edit - To use MilkCows, just approach them like a port and press ESC and choose DOCK AT U-*** (whatever), FYI when leaving a milkcow your patrol grid will read NULL, just continue to do whatever you like.

Also use any medals/promotions while you are there as you can't use them again.

The navigation officer is usually pessimistic by a few thousand miles anyway.

Even so, if there are no milk cows I would change the grid.

I agree...'change the grid' :yep: or press 'Esc' when you want to return and forego the renown

From the F1 listings, no milkcow is available for another month, so I think I'll just switch up the grid and head for the Channel for some fun :)

Thanks for the info.

Tool,

If I can make it to Norfolk in a IXB you can clearly make it to New York in a IXC, not that I'm saying to bother. In my case it's late 42 and I'm sorry I traded in my VII. If I can make through 43 I'm changing Flotillas and getting a XXI in 44.

Crossing to the East Coast of the US is boring at 8 or 9 knots. There was nothing docked at Norfolk in stock shiii. I managed to kill two PT boats with the 37mm flak gun and returned to BF13 and BF15 to escape a totally boring patrol.

I'm running GWX and I think I'll just randomize me another patrol grid.

Thanks for the info.

You'll be lucky to find anything docked anywhere in stock SH3 :nope:
Try one of the Mods ie: HT...NYGM...GW...GWX etc. You'll find more all the harbour traffic you can handle then
My own personal preference is GWX ;)
Welcome aboard and Good Hunting :arrgh!:

I'm heading to EK74 off the West coast of Africa near Freetown after using Sub Commander to randomize a new patrol. So far I've encountered 3 merchants and an armed trawler and sunk them.. but taken a bit of damage from their gun batteries. When I stop to refuel/rearm in the islands on the way south, can they repair any damage?

Yes
Any friendly port\resupply ship and milkcow will refuel and rearm your boat
All damage will be repaired also
Docking at any port results in the end of the patrol - inc the above
You can hand out medals in any of the other ports but not upgrade your boat
You will start out with a NULL patrol grid but you can change that through SH3commander
