Has anyone been to Scapa Flow, and if so what did you see? (ie. any big game?)
I just went there, but I wanted to see who else.
I went there and got uh...five destroyers

Went there in GW1.1a...not with GWX. Was mid '40 and I went thru the eastern inlets...very shallow and narrow. There was a King George V class BB waiting for me along with a few DD's, and Merchants.
I wouldn't try Scapa in GWX or later than 1940.

GW1.1 could still make it in 44, but i started at Bergen and entered from the northern pass, there are some sunken obstacles but not much else in terms of deterants... the western side isn't much fun though. did it in broad daylight sunk 2 troop transports and an Auxiliary.. hardly a wimper from the RN surprsiingly... did this once or twice that year. playing 96%
haven't tried GWX yet though, don't think i'll risk it. there's not much in later war years, hit em bright and early

There is generally nearly always something worth sinking in Scapa Flow...you have to go and take your chance...just like Prien did

I saw my own death! Good times!!!! Thanks to GWX I decided to play it more like an actual war though and not penetrate harbours anymore.

You can sneak in past the blockade-ships, using this small entrance:
http://www.61shap.org/pilots/Paajtor/SHIII/Scapa.jpg
...but ALWAYS remember you have only 11m of water under kiel on periscope-depth!
I sneaked in during the night, after finding a small gap next to a wreck close to shore..I had only 3m tolerance on all 3 sides.
Then I had to wait stationary submerged all day, for evening to fall, and prepare for the attack at the Fiji-class that was lying on anchor, at 7000m West of my position...oxygen went down to 40%, but was quickly replenished in the 1st hr of dawn, after lying decks-awash for a little while.
There was a guy fishing closeby, but he never noticed us lol.
The thunderstorm overhead made it all pretty creepy.
I fired 2 electric torps, set at 6.1m (Fiji=5m draft) on a 1degr. spread, from 1200m.
They never knew where it was coming from, and the (10ktons) Fiji sank within 2hrs.
I escaped the same way I came from, on silent running, with plenty of oxygen and E-power.
By the time that other ships came investigating, we were already gone, back through the barricade.
Once beyond that barrier, there's no way they can get us anymore, unless they send airplanes.
Well...let them come!:D
Sailing from Bergen in typeVIIC fully upgraded, June '42, GWX.
I was there a few days ago(GWX), pocketed 2 Didos, 1 Destroyer, 1 Large Passenger thingy, and 1 Fishingboat (just for fun, she flew!). Then I crashed into the blockade ships with the TC button hanging at 1FPS. :stare:
Got back to Bergen, though. Barely.
I've tried this. I get nailed every time.
Go silent, go slow, and dont take the periscope up until you are ready to fire. Oh, and bad weather is your friend. (Not fog)
Here is a Scapa pic from GW 1.1a:

wOOt! Fette Beute!:o
Lucky bastard.
The Fiji was the biggest target I could find...still a nice catch, for it has a considerable amount of firing-power, and a launchable seaplane as well!
And all that for just 2 E-torps....BdU will be pleased. :D

That was quite some shooting their stabiz
Do you think Scapa is just as hard in GWX or even harder now ? (I've yet to go there in GWX myself) :hmm:

I generally use two torps for ships at anchor, once in Scapa I found 3 Fiji's so I fired two torps at two of them and one of them sank quickly. On my wait out I fired my rear one and the other sank :D
Scapa is much harder in GWX, those blockade ships are tighter now. :D
But if you get detected in there you are pretty much dead.

I just been, GWX second patrol, Oct 39. I found this.

As you can see pretty much the worst weather possible but that helped me. I got detected and DC'd but managed to lose them without serious damage. Not sure on the actual ship becasue at the arming distance i couldnt see it so i just had to fire blind, 31,000 tonnes though, revenge i think, and all with my trusty IIA.

I can't play, but since it's an improvement on what was already done, and since they said so, what is there changes historically. Sometimes the fleet is in, sometimes there's nothing.

I just restarted my Scapa-attack, to see whether I could get more tons.
So I again sank the Fiji, and right after it a C&D class and a Troop Transport (worth around 20k tons in total).
But the respons of the present war-ships (several more destroyers) was poor! :o
All they did, was to hit their searchlights, and fire a few flares very random.
Nobody moved, no attempt to raise anchor and rev up the engines.
I waited in the neighbourhood for several hrs (had to see if I really sank all my targets).
Ok, it was pitch-dark, with a dry thunderstorm overhead...but I would have expected more from the Brittish Navy, in '42.
I didn't even have to escape on silent-running...
Great attack-run, but a bit disappointing still.

A Revenge class BB, but the weather was so poor I didnt even bother, I went to Loch Ewe and sank 3 BBs and a CV instead
